Webinar on Thursday, August 23 at 12:00 PM EDT features Genuitec’s Secure Delivery Center taking control of existing Eclipse installations while adding an App Store for enterprise software management.
Enterprise IT administrators can breathe a little easier by taking charge of existing open source software within their companies while avoiding the challenges of understanding each unique configuration, version used, and security around software projects (not to mention legal issues). With drag-n-drop ease, simple policy questions about open source governance in the enterprise, and the ability to create an App Store of proprietary and sanctioned Eclipse software; for the first time IT managers will gain control of open source as it already exists in the enterprise.

This post assumes you already have the Eclipse Marketplace client installed into MyEclipse, if not please go here to learn how. (Note, in several weeks MyEclipse 10.6 will have this feature pre-installed as default).
Let’s install Cloud Foundry. From the Help > Eclipse Marketplace menu search for “Cloud Foundry”

Once it is located in the Eclipse Marketplace client, next accept the licensing agreement.

After the installation and restart, you can add your Cloud server by opening the WTP Java Extras perspective by using Help > Open Perspective… and selecting the “Show all” checkbox…
Then to add your cloud server you can right-click in the WTP Servers view and select ‘New > Server’
And select VMWare > Cloud Foundry and follow the steps in the wizard

And that’s it, now you know how to install the Cloud Foundry plugin into MyEclipse. If you have any questions please visit our support forums: http://genuitec.com/support

The soon to be released MyEclipse version 10.6 will have the Eclipse Marketplace client pre-installed by default, however before it’s released in several weeks here’s a quick how-to guide on adding Eclipse Marketplace into MyEclipse.
Since MyEclipse 10.5 and earlier does not ship with the Eclipse Marketplace Client pre-installed the first step is to install the client from the Help > MyEclipse Configuration Center… > Software tab and clicking the ‘+’ icon to add it to the MyEclipse configuration, as shown below.
 Adding Eclipse Marketplace
Follow the wizard directions and allow MyEclipse to restart after the installation. Once restarted, you can add items from the Help > Eclipse Marketplace… item as you’d expect.
 Select Eclipse Marketplace
And that’s it, now you know how to install the Eclipse Marketplace into MyEclipse. Again, this feature will be pre-installed in the coming version 10.6 of MyEclipse. If you have any questions please visit our support forums: http://genuitec.com/support

This Saturday Genuitec celebrates its 15th birthday – in dog years we’re 105-years-old. We’ll stick with the actual years because we’re young at heart. :)
For those folks who don’t know us well, the company was founded in 1997 but changed its name to Genuitec in 2001, so that’s 15-years we’ve all been together developing software for developers.
A big, huge thanks to our loyal customers! For without you, we would have just been another start up that didn’t quite start up. A sample of our customers can be found here: http://www.genuitec.com/clients.html
And here’s to our three thriving product lines with nine individual software offerings to support most developer needs.
IDEs: MyEclipse Standard, MyEclipse Professional, MyEclipse for Spring, MyEclipse Blue, MyEclipse Bling
ALM: Secure Deliver Center, Pulse, OneInstall
Mobile: MobiOne Studio
We’re busy (who isn’t these days), but we do take the time to reflect on what matters most – and that’s you, our customer.
Cheers, and happy weekend!

We’re pleased to share the news that our MyEclipse IDE was recently voted as the top choice for developers in the categories of Web Design and Development, and Support for Frameworks.

The 2012 Evans Data Report, titled “Users’ Choice: Software Development Platforms,” sampled 1,200 active developer from across the globe who found MyEclipse as the most powerful and useful IDE in the Web development space while providing the most options to support a broad swath of frameworks.
Of note, Genuitec’s MyEclipse out-shined IBM Rational tools, Adobe Flash Builder, Microsoft Visual Studio, Red Hat JBoss, Embarcadero Delphi, Eclipse OSS, Oracle JDeveloper, and SAP NetWeaver for favorable Web development capabilities.
“MyEclipse stands shoulder to shoulder with products from companies with the largest market cap of any industry,” said Maher Masri, CEO of Genuitec. “This report confirms our commitments to save customers of all sizes time and money without any compromises. It is a statement that our MyEclipse technologies are comparable to – and in many cases better than – what organizations with thousands of developers can provide.”
The research analysts from Evans Data Corporation noted, “MyEclipse is well at home in Web development and its users found its offerings to be very strong.” Further stating in support for frameworks, “MyEclipse, Visual Studio and Rational were all in the top three last year, while JBoss has advanced in several categories. These four form the first tier in this year’s User’s Choice survey.”
“The tools [MyEclipse] are generally characterized by developers as an intuitive and highly productive offering supported by a flexible, extendable plug-in system,” the report further stated in a closing remarks.
The full report can be purchased at this link: http://www.evansdata.com/reports/viewRelease.php?reportID=19

The marketing and sales team is back from a terrific week in Las Vegas with IBM at the Impact 2012 show. The show itself is huge – like 9,000 attendees huge – with a variety of sessions on everything from servers, to development tools, new technologies and best practices for developers and executives. For the most part IBM focused its efforts on its newest PureSystems technologies and methodologies – think integrated systems with elastic cloud computing and an appliance tuned workload. That’s the newest IBM play in a nutshell.
As for Genuitec, we had the best show that we’ve ever experienced in terms of lead generation, but more importantly the conversations we shared at our booth. We talked to hundreds of folks interested in learning about how our technologies can ease WebSphere migration. For example MyEclipse Blue is a replacement to IBM Rational tools or it can be an adjunct technology – meaning instead of using Rational for WebSphere development, companies use MyEclipse Blue to create their applications for WebSphere. Between functionality, cost, support and ease-of-use, the case for MyEclipse Blue far outweighs any reasons to use Rational – plus it supports WebSphere 6, which IBM is discontinuing support for very soon. Folks at the Impact show loved this fact about MyEclipse Blue, because it gives them time to migrate to newer WebSphere technologies without sticking to IBM’s rigid timeline for migration.
We also had a very funny comment from an IBM’er on the Rational team who came to tell us we give the Rational sales team a “big freaking headache.” We laughed together because he even acknowledged that at $160, MyEclipse Blue is great technology to help with WebSphere sales, and in the end it helps IBM when there are choices for WebSphere development tools.
Another area where current and potential customers found interest was with our Secure Delivery Center (SDC) product. At the booth, we weren’t pitching this particular technology hard-core, but folks wanted to know if we had technology to help them manage their IDE installation sprawl. Secure Delivery Center focuses on a “marketplace” approach to software development, much like the Eclipse Foundation, but the marketplace exists inside a company firewall. Developers and executives walked away from our booth with a new way to think about secure software development by using SDC instead of investing in a private cloud for development (SDC is less expensive anyway).
Overall, the show was a great success for us and a confirmation that all of Genuitec product are strategically aligned to give customers the most value at the best price point whether using IBM tools or doing development on their own. The ability to migrate to and from IBM technologies seamlessly address a real-world pain point, and we look forward to helping even more customers take back control of their IT processes.
Here are a couple pics from the show :)
