I use and really like MyEclipse for Java, but occasionally I have to write Python. Now I think there is an Eclipse plug-in: PyDev. But I’m reluctant to add something unknown to a system that is working perfectly well as it is.
So, has anyone experience with this, or any other, Eclipse plug-in for Python development. I really would prefer not to have to learn and maintain and pay for another IDE just for occasional use.
    Suggestions ?
(Except that I shouldn’t be using Python in the first place: I know that already.)

    hamiljf,

MyEclipse is based on Eclipse and allows users to add Eclipse based plugins to their ME profile. If you work on Python, you can add PyDev Eclipse plugins to your MyEclipse profile. You could add the update site – http://pydev.org/updates (based on http://pydev.org/manual_101_install.html) to MyEclipse Configuration Center > Software tab using [add site] and follow the wizard or download the plugin and add to [your MyEclipse Installation directory]/dropins.

Please refer http://pydev.org/ for more details.

Thanks for a very helpful reply. I did what I thought you meant and it seems to have worked just fine. Also PyDev seems pretty good at picking up errors… found a few that another product had missed.
And my sub was due for renewal this month, so I have.
    Thanks again.
