Spielberg fused old-style film monsters with the latest special effects to provide you with a visually spectacular version of the War of the Worlds. While this movie was breathtaking at the beginning and middle, it's ending left much to be desired, unlike the TOP T.E.N we've selected for 2005's Best T.E.N!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     This movie was as bold as it was bold. Shot entirely behind a green screen, most of the movies characters worked very well together to deliver some of the most dramatic, incredible scenes. Watching this movie brought back that comic book feeling which you used to own when you brought your characters to life in your head.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           9 - Batman Begins                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           DC has come back with a vengeance not seen since Richard Pryor stole all those pennies in Superman III. Batman begins the battle afresh between Marvel and DC for superhero supremacy. The battle lines have been drawn from movie since they were in the comics, with Marvel going for flash and action, whilst DC opting for more depth and struggle. Bruce Wayne is superbly played by Christian Bale who knows how to play dark (see The Machinist). Although I believe that Katie Holmes actually detracted from the film, you get a sense that large things are in store for our caped crusader.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     This is the film that for the rest of the year, the rest of the comedies attempted to compare itself to. I adored Vince Vaugn who, as a character role, has experienced a hit or miss type of career. He does this time since he pairs up with Owen Wilson to provide a performance reminiscent of Swingers (the all-time sensitive guy movie). Christopher Walken was also a excellent addition to the cast, as the stodgy old dad. A definite must see.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     How great is a film where the title character just shows an hour in and the rest of the characters are one dimensional? Beneath Peter Jackson, the master of all things fantasy, this movie was simply incredible.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           6 -- Serenity                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Science fiction is about new worlds, and new ideas. Here's a movie that fused some of the old west frontier city with space ships and kung-fu. May sound crazy but it all works well together. The key characters are simply a bunch of smugglers that are being chased by a government special assassin, because one of their former stowaway's could have top secret information locked within her brain. Given the success of this film after the cancelled television show, comparison to Star Trek was unavoidable. We expect this one becomes a new franchise ourselves.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           5 - Skeleton Key                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Can't have a picture today made in New Orleans without their being some voodoo. Seems like most of the people down there either practise it, or keep away from it in the simple truth that they believe in it. Can you believe?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Very hard to best the first movie for this sort of movie. Most of the suspense came in the not understanding and never having seen events such as that which transpired in the first movie. This newest edition weaves a slightly more intricate tale that involve a father and son with a finish that is sure to keep you talking after the movie has finished.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Hillary Swank surrounded by two much older men. Not my idea of exiting. However, this movie does a fantastic job in getting emotion from the crowd. You feel determined as she was to become something, as angry as she ought to have been her family, and the fondness she felt for her old trainer. This movie is packed full of emotion, so it is what a film ought to be.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Two - Hotel Rwanda                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           That is a story that had to be told. A tragedy so terrible that it's message required to came out in order to help prevent those events from ever happening again. We look at those people, all of us white or black, as easy Africans residing in the dirt. This film made them individual, made us weep and suffer with them for their plight.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           1 - Crash                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           This movie wasn't only among the best of 2005, but one of those all-time classic films of its time. Taking a European slant with penalizing weaving different tales and personalities until they came together a many points near the end, every scene, each section is worth watching, worth commenting on. This movie ought to be part of any group you have, or is the reason to start one.
