I have a 64-bit ubuntu 9.10 workstation that I am using a 32-bit jdk. Do I install the 32 or 64 bit version of myeclipse?

The 64-bit version failed and I am trying the 32-bit version. I have 32-big compat libraries installed on ubuntu, but don’t know if I’m missing anything to get the 32-bit version of myeclipse working.

    Thanks.

    meinholz,

Ideally, you should install 64 bit ME and also use 64-bit JDK. What is the error you are getting while trying to install ME? Can you copy and paste error log here and also attach screenshot in support?

The 32-bit version seems to be working correctly for now with the exception that I have to set the environment variable:
    export GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=1
to work around some GDK bugs in eclipse.

I’m using the 64-bit OS to be able to use all the memory in my workstation (> 3GB). I’m using the 32-bit Java because I don’t need big heap space and I’ve read articles that 64-bit Java is slower and takes more memory and the only good reason to use it is if you need really large heap space (which I don’t for development).

I was just curious if the 64-bit dependency was on the OS or Java and it appears to be on Java.

I have attached the screen shot of the error message when I try and install 64-bit MyEclipse with 32-bit Java on 64-bit Ubuntu.

I can’t find a way to upload the attachment but the Message test is:

The windowing libraries for your operating system and architecture are not available.
Please confirm that you are using hte installer that corresponds to your architecture.

That should be fine. There is no dependency on Java.
