    I am using Eclipse 8.0. I copied the jupiter plug-in under dropins folder.

    The dropins folder is under Genuitec (so Genuitec/dropins)

    When I start the eclipse, it doesn’t get picked up. How do I know? Well, I go to Help –> About My Eclipse Enterprise WorkBench –> plugins, I don’t see the plugin which is edy.hawaii.etc.

    I had to use this way because SoftwareUpdate –> Add/Reomve Software doesn’t create a wizard.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks for the help

    laceraravi,

    Can you answer few queries for me to get to the root cause?
    1. Can you copy and paste your installation details? Open MyEclipse IDE, from menu options click on MyEclipse > Installation Summary > Installation Details.
    2. Can you share the weblink for jupiter plug-in?
    3. You mention

    The dropins folder is under Genuitec (so Genuitec/dropins)

    There cannot be a dropins folder directly under “Genuitec”. You need to copy the plugin under [your myeclipse installation dir]/dropins/plugins folder and restart your IDE
    4.

    I had to use this way because SoftwareUpdate –> Add/Reomve Software doesn’t create a wizard.

    Can you attach a screenshot? Typically, if you have an update site / archive update site, you can use the Help > Software Update > Add / Remove Software. Click on [Add]. Next click on [Add Site] and add the name and update site and follow the wizard. After you add the plugin to your ME profile, you need to restart your IDE.

    Best.

    About dropins folder and plugins folder:

    It is strange:

    My plugins folder is: Genuitec/Common/Plugins

    My dropins folder is: Genuitec/dropins.

    It seemsl like you’re suggesting that plugins folder must be: Genuitec/dropins/plugins

    =============

    Regarding Add/Remove Software: There is nothing to show the screenshot. I see a flicker as if a window opens and closes and nothing happens.

    ==============
    Here is the link for jupiter plugin: http://code.google.com/p/jupiter-eclipse-plugin/downloads/detail?name=edu.hawaii.ics.csdl.jupiter_3.5.1.jar

    I downloaded it and dropped it under Genuitec/dropins folder as I mentioned earlier.

    Thanks,
    Ravi

    Ravi,

    Thank you for the details. You need to copy the plugin to [your myeclipse installation dir]/dropins/plugins. By default plugins folder is not present under dropins. You need to create the same and drop the jar file there. Next restart your IDE. You should be all set.

    I tried that yesterday. It still didn’t work.

    Is there a common practice you guys suggest? Should I try to download Eclipse from Pulse?

    I downloaded the Eclipse jar file and then copied it over. Is that a problem for plugins?

    What is the plugin you are trying to add? I was under the impression that you are trying to add Jupiter plugin to your MyEclipse profile.

    I tried that yesterday. It still didn’t work.

    What is the issue you are seeing? Can you explain in detail and include screenshots which will help me get a visual? You can either [pm] me the screenshots or send an email to support@genuitec.com with this weblink as reference and also include ATTN:Joy in the subject.

    Sorry to have confused you.

    I tried your suggestion already. That is I copied the jupiter plugin under dropins/plugins directory and restarted Eclipse. But the plugin was still not available.

    So I was asking whether it has anything to do with the way I installed eclipse itself.

    I don’t know what screenshots to send. If I see an error or something I can send you. But there is nothing to indicate an error.

    ======================

    Now, I decided to install Eclipse 8.5 using pulse, thinking that it will make a difference to add the jupiter plugin.

    Now, when I go to Help –> Software Updates –> Find and Install a Wizard appears.

    In the wizard I chose “Search for New features to install” and in the following wizard I created a jupiter-plugin with the following URL:
    http://jupiter-eclipse-plugin.googlecode.com/files/edu.hawaii.ics.csdl.jupiter_3.5.1.jar

    When I clicked FINISH here is what I got:

    Network connection problems encountered during search.
    Unable to access “http://jupiter-eclipse-plugin.googlecode.com/files/edu.hawaii.ics.csdl.jupiter_3.5.1.jar”.
    Error parsing site stream. [Premature end of file.]
    Premature end of file.
    Error parsing site stream. [Premature end of file.]
    Premature end of file.

    =================

    Is there an issue with the way I am submitting the url?

    Thanks,
    Ravi

    Okay. When I added the jar file under dropins/plugins in 8.5, the jupiter plugin was discovered on Eclipse startup.

    As I wrote to you earlier I was trying to install the plugin in Eclipse 8.0 that was installed by downloading from Eclipse site. And it didn’t work.

    Thanks,
    Ravi

    I am trying to test pulse’s collaborative center. I tried to add a user with the email. (Add to Invite) It doesn’t work.

    Also, do I have to purchase additional license for pulse? I have MyEclipse License.

    I don’t know whether it is alright to continue this thread for pulse questions.

    Thanks,
    Ravi

    Ravi,

    Good to hear you are all set with jupiter plugin. You don’t need any separate license for pulse. Please post your pulse queries on pulse forums here – http://www.poweredbypulse.com/forums/index.php

    Best.
