    Hi!

I use Windows XP Prof. with Intel Pentium M 1.4 GHz and 768 MB RAM, Eclipse 3.0.0 Build id: 200406251208 with EMF v2.0.0 Build id: 200404080727, GEF 2.1 Build id: 200404130005.
At first I tried to install with the autoinstaller. This programm started, extract all inside saved Files und ends without any message.
Then I tried the manuel installing, following the manual save in that archive, too.
Now I can see that plug-in under “help->about->plug-ins”: MyEclipse Schema Editor 13.8.1 and Structured Source Editor 13.8.1
But I’ve no myEclipse View or Project. There is no other hint, that this plug-in is installed…

    Can anybody help me?

Did you open the MyEclipse perspective? Window > Open Perspective > Other… > MyEclipse?

    #213529 Reply

That is the problem… I don’t have such view… :-/ But Eclipse tell me, that the extension is activated and the plug-in is registrated…

Are you using the Eclipse 3.0 SDK, or the Platform/JDT installs? You need to be using the SDK.

If you are, then shut down Eclipse, and go erase the <eclipse dir>\configuration directory, and start Eclipse back up and readd MyEclipse via the Help > Software Updates > Mangae Configuration… mechanism outlined in the install instructions then restart. Did that fix it up?

The configuration dir is a cache of the state of the workbench (this is not your preferences, so you won’t loose them) and sometimes it gets out of sync with reality so we clear it out and walla, that usually does the trick.

    #213609 Reply

At first… After deleting all files in <eclipse dir>\configuration of cause all my preferences were ereased… ’cause the workspace cache is saved in <workspace dir>\.metadata…

Ok… it was just a try… I created a new workspace (after deleting of all my preferences) and installed your extension, restarted eclipse… And nothing happens… No new perspective… No new projects… Nothing… Only the registration of yout plug-ins…
But that was clear, ’cause your extension doesn’t run with a clear installion of this build…

So with what build of eclipse 3.0 have you tested it?!

Can you verify my problem with the same build, I’ve?

    It’s so… I need a JSP/Struts-Editor for my company for a lot of developer…
There a only two Plugins, these run…
    NitroX -> Very expensive
Exadel -> Runs only with clear installation of my build -> It doesn’t really impress me…
So I would want to test your plug, if it can be startet…

After deleting all files in <eclipse dir>\configuration of cause all my preferences were ereased..

Your preferences are stored in your workspace dir… unless you have your workspace in a strange place, this should not have happened… what preferences are you referring to? Everything under Window > Prefereneces?

    No new perspective…

Do you see it listed under Window > Open Perspective > Other… > MyEclipse?

So with what build of eclipse 3.0 have you tested it?!

Obviously with Eclipse 3.0 GA as that is the requirement for install.

This honestly sounds like an install issue, here is a step-by-step walkthrough of a clean install of MyEclipse: http://www.myeclipseide.com/FAQ+index-myfaq-yes-id_cat-4.html#156

Please note that in 95% of support cases you do not need to create a new workspace, the only issue that arises is stale configuration information that can stop MyEclipse from loading correctly, this is cleared up by removing the <eclipse dir>\configuration directory which will not effect your preferences (even though you stated it did, I believe you have an install error someplace as the preferences are not saved here).

I would encourage you to try a clean install of MyEclipse 3.8.1 and be sure to apply the hotfixes that are posted at the top of this forum to help fix some annoying bugs you and your team could run into. MyEclipse does not *require* a clean Eclipse install.

Em.. I’ve create a new Workplace at the same time, so that could be the cause, too 😉 Sorry

Do you see it listed under Window > Open Perspective > Other… > MyEclipse?

    No

Obviously with Eclipse 3.0 GA as that is the requirement for install.

Were I can find this “GA” version?

I’ve downloaded “Eclipse SDK – Windows 98/ME/2000/XP – eclipse-SDK-3.0-win32.zip ” from http://eclipse.cis.sinica.edu.tw/downloads/drops/R-3.0-200406251208/index.php and there is no “GA” version

This honestly sounds like an install issue, here is a step-by-step walkthrough of a clean install of MyEclipse: http://www.myeclipseide.com/FAQ+index-myfaq-yes-id_cat-4.html#156

*G* Thank you… That was the way, I’ve create a fresh installtion of my eclipse… (By the way… ” Eclipse 2.1.3 SDK and MyEclipse 2.7.1 Installer”… A little bit out of date, I think)

[qoute]Please note that in 95% of support cases you do not need to create a new workspace, the only issue that arises is stale configuration information that can stop MyEclipse from loading correctly, this is cleared up by removing the <eclipse dir>\configuration directory which will not effect your preferences (even though you stated it did, I believe you have an install error someplace as the preferences are not saved here).

Now we know sure, that is not the cause of this problem…

    No change… :-/

I hope so, but a clean install of eclipse should surely work…

You have the correct version, GA just is a term the Eclipse team I guess unofficially uses for “General Availability” meaning a “Stable” or “Final” release.

    No change… :-/

My gosh, I promise we will get this working and appreciate your patience… this has got to be very frustrating for you.

A few things to double check:

      1) Are you sure the MyEclipse extension is installed in Eclipse? You can double check this by going to Help > Software Updates > Mangae Configuration, you should have MyEclipse listed. If you don’t, click “add” and point it ot the directory you unzipped MyEclipse to.
      2) Have you tried using the MyEclipse 3.8.1 GA Manual Install and following the instructions included with it step-by-step?

I can’t imagine what is causing this to be such a headache for you, but I think its probably something very small and will surprise us once we figure it out 😉

    #213738 Reply

    So… I’ve tested your plug-in on two Windows 2000 Prof. pc’s…
One has a nearly equivalent installation of eclipse, the other a nearly fresh installation…
On both pc’s MyEclipse runs without any problem… :-/
Only on my Windows XP (SP 1) it doesn’t…

    #213740 Reply

So… After reinstallation of Java, Eclipse und MyEclipse… It runs at my Windows XP pc, too…
    I don’t know, what’s different now…

    I thank you very much!

So… I think… So now i’m testing your Software… It’s great… Exspecial for that money… if I think of NitroX, that ist very great and powerfull, but my stomage goes mad because of that costs…
