Would just like to say this release of MyEclipse is really hairy.

I uninstalled version 7.5 and attempted to install v8.0 and v8.5 on my Mac and both complain about missing companion library, so I guess we need a list of where the installation files are and where they are sent to because this is not good enough.

I downloaded the AllinOne for macosx and verified the md5 (which was identical).
and having read previous posts about this issue and checked in the /Library directory and did not find a Genuitec directory also checked ~/Library, not found there either. Looked in preferences and also checked for .pulse and .p2 still found nothing (so I’m assuming the uninstallation of 7.5 was clean!)

Checked the installation directory (myeclipse-installer.app) modified the myeclipse-installer.ini to Myeclipse-installer.ini (to see if it was a case-sensitivity issue) and still it fails to fire up the installer. Upgraded the JDK to 1.6u20 and still no joy. I’ve been trying this for about a month now (thinking the shift from v8.0 to v8.5 would have fixed it). I’m running out of options now

I recently persuaded my development team at work to switch from NetBeans to MyEclipse and I don’t have this installation problem at work under WinBloze, so why am I getting it with the Mac? I’m beginning to doubt that I promoted a robust product

Need some good pointers here… anything is useful…
A flakey IDE I can more or less live with; but a fail to clean install from a 700+MB image is just a bit wrong.

Maybe ranting works!… Allows you think straighter while shouting 😉

Don’t use the popular archiver tool to extract the tgz, use the terminal (command line) bsdtar tool instead.

    tar zxvf myeclipse-8.5.0-macosx.tgz

Then you won’t get broken directory links and be able to install (well at least fire up the installer).

That said, might be a good idea to package myeclipse as either a dmg or a pkg file, which more mac users are used to.

See, I told you this was UNIX, command line wins every time 😉

    damocles,

Good to hear you are all set. Thank you for sharing your findings with us. I will escalate it to the dev team members.

    Best.
