Hi,

after Upgrade opneSuse from 11.4 to 12.1 MyEclipse 10 crashes while starting.

Sorry you’re seeing this issue.

How did you upgrade OpenSUSE? Was it a fresh install or an upgrade of an 11.4 system?

If it wasn’t a fresh install, have you tried reinstalling MyEclipse 10? If you reinstall, make sure you have Java installed before the MyEclipse install.

Yes I have made an openSuse Upgrade, no plain installation.

MyEclipse repair and a fresh new Installation does not solve the problem.

Java is already installed:

java version "1.6.0_22"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.10.4) (suse-1.2-x86_64)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.0-b11, mixed mode)

Johannes,

I’m having trouble replicating your environment. However, I can confirm that MyEclipse 10.0 starts fine on a freshly installed openSUSE 12.1 release.

I’ll check on an upgraded system, as soon as I can get that working. Which instructions did you follow to upgrade your system? I’ve found several on the Web but just want to make sure that I follow the same path as you did.

I just try out to use an new Workspace and not my existing Workspace. But it also crashes!

The error happens immediately after the workspace is displayed during the Java Init Phase.
I’ve installed the Web-Tools Profile + Maven Tools.

I’m not sure what you mean when you say:

Do you mean that you’ve installed the eclipse web-tools platform (http://eclipse.org/webtools/) and the m2eclipse plug-in (http://eclipse.org/m2e/)? If this is the case, then it was unnecessary since MyEclipse has integrated those plug-ins, so you get them with MyEclipse, anyway. It may be that installing those plug-ins causes some conflict. If you’ve installed these plug-ins, please reinstall MyEclipse but don’t install those plug-ins and let us know if that works.

If you didn’t install those plug-ins, please provide a link to the instructions you followed to upgrade to OpenSUSE 12.1, as I asked previously, so that I can try to replicate your situation.

No, I don’t mean the eclipse webtools project. I mean the checkboxes in the MyEclipse Installation Dialog.

I don’t know any upgrade guides from openSuse. I just download the new 64bit version of openSuse 12.1, burn this Image, insert it into my dvd rom and select upgrade the system.

I’m afraid I can’t replicate your problem. This is what I did:

Did you run a zypper update before upgrading to 12.1? If not, maybe 12.1 has inadvertently downgraded some package. The only suggestions I have, at this point, are to try a zypper update on 12.1, or to install MyEclipse in your home directory. are the only suggestions I have at this point, other than installing 12.1 again.

However, I notice that you’ve installed MyEclipse to the /opt folder. Could you explain how you’ve done this? Presumably, you ran the installer as root but I couldn’t get the installer to run, this way. Can you try to install MyEclipse in the standard way, to a folder in your home directory, and see if that works?

Hello Tony,

first of all, thank you for the fast support.

I just made a zypper update without success. Also I have made a new Installation into my Home Folder, but with the same result. 🙁

When I read the stacktrace it looks like the java version 1.6.13 shipped with MyEclipse has a problem with the installed glibc version 2.14.1-14.12.5.

Do you have also installed the 64bit version? Is MyEclipse compatible to an current jdk? Do you have try it in an KDE Environment?

I just search for an other solution then reinstall. And it looks like I found one possible solution.

If I unset the MALLOC_CHECK_ MyEclipse 10 is starting fine. I don’t know what it mean, but it works. 🙂

I’m glad you found that workaround though unsetting MALLOC_CHECK_ may mask the problem. But I couldn’t replicate your startup problem with any setting of MALLOC_CHECK_ (it was set to 3 by default), on KDE (though I don’t think the desktop will make a difference). I’ve installed the 64 bit version of MyEclipse, and also have the same version of glibc installed. At what point in the startup does the problem occur – does the workbench come up at all? If there is any relevant message in the workspace .log file (in the .metadata folder), please post it here.
