vgriffinMemberI have about 20 databases known to DB Browser. Some of the databases contain more tables than fit in one page of DB Browser. Several of the databases use a table PROCESS_RECOVERY to track progress (and to parmit recovery if the process fails). In general, I do not want to see the columns in DB Browser. While tracking the status of a process, I keep the connection open and display the table names. I set Table/Object Info to Preview. I position the display to show the PROCESS_RECOVERY entry and right-click Refresh as necessary.
It does refresh the displayed contents. But it also shows the columns in the DB Browser pane. In the process, it moves the location of the PROCESS_RECOVERY line in the DB Browser pane. Depending on the number of databases I’ve got open, the number of table names shown, and the window size, the PROCESS_RECOVERY line may not be shown after I have refreshed it. Even if I let it show the column names before I do the refresh, it adjusts the display so the connection line is visible, NOT necessarily the table I will want to refresh again! It should leave the line I have just right-clicked on selected AND VISIBLE!
This was very annoying yesterday (Sunday) when I was working from home using my laptop’s screen which doesn’t show as many lines as the screen at my office.

Riyad KallaMembervgriffin,
I’m having a hard time visualizing the issue… are you saying that the outline view (on the left) is moving when you refresh the display? If so, are you using Refresh to simply refresh the contents of the Preview view? For example, if the preview pane had it’s own Refresh button, could you just hit that instead and accomplish what you need to?

vgriffinMemberThat’s what I’m saying. You need to have enough entries in the DB Browser to require scrolling for the problem to manifest. (Try reducing the window height.)
You’re right. All I want to do is refresh the preview (or row count). A button or menu item on the right-click menu in the DB Browser outline to refresh the preview would be acceptable. In fact, a “Refresh Table Display” menu item that also selected the “Table/Object Info” tab would be very nice to have. (This would put the requested data update on top of any SQL Results or other display in that section.) I would NOT want any button that reduces the maximum number of lines that can be displayed. (I’ve requested a way to remove toolbars, especially from panes like outline, because I’d rather have the line of data, especially when I’m using the laptop display. I don’t use those toolbars at all.)
In any case, it’s very annoying for Refresh in the DB Browser outline or any other display to move its display making the selected line invisible unless that line actually goea away as a result of the Refresh. It’s also annoying for any Refresh to change the level of detail displayed. Again, this problem is amplified by use of a laptop using X to communicate to a remote host.

Riyad KallaMemberThank you for clarifying, we had a feature request in our tracker for a Refresh button for exactly this issue, I’ll add your comments to it.
