    ogr,
The good news is that I can’t reproduce your problem (so its probably a setup issue). To find the version of Java you are using, drop to a console and type “java -version”.

Can you walk me through the steps that you are doing (what projects you are adding, where you are putting it, etc.) and maybe we can find out whats going on?

Also, can you copy-paste your log file into a message for me (look in <eclipse install>\workspace\.metadata\.log file)

    Hi,

First of all, the java version is: j2sdk 1.4.2_03, just downloaded a few days ago from sun website.

I will walk you through the steps to create it:

1.- From MyEclipse perspective, New->Project, and from J2EE options, i select the Enterprise Application Project.

2.- From the “New Enterprise Application Project” window, i enter the following:
    Project Name: MyProject
Uncheck “use default location” and browe the location: C:\Data\MyEAP
Creation tasks: i check both options, web and EJB project modules

3.- From the “Define Web Project Module” window:
    Check “Create Web project Module”
    Project Name: MyProjectWeb (default)
    Uncheck “Use default location”
    Browse and select “C:\Data\MyEAP\Web” path
    Source folder: src (default)
    Web root folder: WebRoot (default)
    Context root URL: /MyProjectWeb (default)

4.- In the “Define EJB Project Module” window:
    Check “Create EJB project Module”
    Project Name: MyProjectEJB (default)
    Uncheck “Use default location”
    Browse and select “C:\Data\MyEAP\EJB” path
    Source folder: src (default)

5.- In the “Summary window” i select “Finish”, and it is in this step where the error happens: “Unable to create Enterprise Application Project. Reason: invalid project description.”

    Waiting for your answer

    ogr,
Using your very detailed steps I was able to reproduce your problem, I appreciate you taking the type to tell me what the steps were. We’ll look into this ASAP.

    All,

I’ve unmarked this as a bug because it is an illegal project configuration. Eclipse (not MyEclipse) has a restriction on the project locations that does not allow any two project locations to overlap. The way these steps are specified, both the Web and EJB projects overlap with the EAR project’s directory structure which is specifically illegal according to Eclipse. So, basically the error you’re seeing of ‘Invalid project description’, although a bit vague is indeed correct.

Scott thank you for clearing that up. Can we do something more informative during the wizards for 2.8 possibly?

    Riyad,

I’m sorry, but no that would be impossible. The current error is so clearly stated that improving on it would be completely impossible. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I surely hope we can do a bit better. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks to all for your interest in muy doubts.

Iยดve tried to create an Enterprise Application Project in a different directory from web and ejb module`s directories and it works:
    EAR –> C:/Data/MyProj/EAR
    Web –> C:/Data/MyProj/Web
    EJB –> C:/Data/MyProj/EJB

I totally agree with Riyad that this question should be cleared up in the wizards. i have not found anything about this restriction and i think i would be a good point to clear up.

best regards to all and thnaks a lot

    OGR
