During a break from my ruby programming, I decided to try to install the latest MyEclipse for some java work once again. (I’ve tried off and on to get my subscription working on 64-bit linux, but it seems every time there is some kind of problem that prevents me from ever using it.)

This time, I got the latest standalone image from the site:
myeclipse-7.5.0-linux-gtk-x86_64.tgz

I unpacked this and ran the installer… I even think it started up ok the first time, but as soon as the updater ran, it somehow permanently broke the startup… I’ve tried nuking the directory and installing again, but to no avail… I wasn’t prompted for sudo access, so AFAIK the install is self-contained.

I tracked the problem to xulrunner and checked the forums, which had this workaround:

However, I tried to get it to work and something seems to be adding the 64bit libs to my LD_LIBRARY_PATH — or at least thats what the log dump complains about.

Another possibility is that the download was labeled RedHat… I figured I’d try it since myeclipse doesn’t have a 7.5 manual install option (there is a 7.1 manual install download) — but I figured java is java… maybe this is a mistake.

I’ve also got FF 3.5 installed, so I don’t know if this is making the xulrunner problem worse.

Anyway, here’s the log dump, maybe someone can spot what I’m doing wrong?

This looks like its an incompatibility between xulrunner bundled with MyEclipse and the xulrunner in ubuntu9.04. Thank you for reporting this issue. We will look into any possible fixes and let you know asap.
