I had this strange problem after installing the myeclipse 2.7.1 from 2.7 GA. The 1st time, i forgot to lauch eclipse after uninstall myeclipse 2.7. so eclipse failed to lauch after installing 2.7.1. So, i read the instruction and uninstalled 2.7.1, lauched eclipse, shut it down, and reinstalled 2.7.1. this time, i can launch eclipse and it recognized the new myeclipse and restarted by itself as it supposed to do. however, i cannot find the myclipse perspective anymore since then. can you tell me how to solve this? Thx.

If not, was it upgraded to its current version using the update manager?
Other installed external plugins: struts console, eclipse UML

    MyEclipse version: 2.7.1
    Eclipse JDK version: 1.4.2

Are there any exceptions in the Eclipse log file? Here is the error from the log file.

You can see if the perspective is still available by clicking on Window > Open Perspective > Other…, and then open the “MyEclipse” perspective. If you don’t see it, click on Help > About… do you see a MyEclipse button?

If not, then I think something got really messed up, so lets do some cleanup.

      1) Close Eclipse
      2) Go into <eclipse install>\links directory, and move the com.genuitec.eclipse.MyEclipse.link file someplace else (like your desktop)
      3) Now go into <eclipse install>\workspace\.metadata and erase the .config directory
      4) Start Eclipse, did everything work?
      5) Shutdown Eclipse
      6) Copy the com.genuitec.eclipse.MyEclipse.link file back into the <eclipse install>\links directory
      7) Double check the contents of the com.genuitec.eclipse.MyEclipse.link file to make sure it points to the correct MyEclipse install path (just open with NotePad), and note that the double backslashes are necessary
      8) Fire up Eclipse, did everything work?
      9) Follow my steps above to open the MyEclipse perspective again, did it work?

    Paul,

These log entries would’ve been generated after you uninstalled MyEclipse 2.7 and and started Eclipse without it installed. Can you shutdown Eclipse, delete the log file, and then restart? Once you restart please open the Install / Update perspective and see if it shows the MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench 2.7.1 feature is installed. If not, please check the log file for any new errors and report them here.

By the way, in the future the easiest way to upgrade is with the update manager, not a full uninstall and reinstall. 🙂
