Bernd MaierhoferMemberI am just curious – why is it not possible to have ME and WTP both installed and working?
Using ME (which I prefer) I am missing these features:
– import project from WAR/JAR WTP
– HSQL prototyping and Hibernate Toolstx + brgds bernd
Scott AndersonParticipantBernd,
The issue is that we were the first to ship a J2EE IDE based on the early versions of WTP and due to the churn in the project to deliver 1.0 we’ve chosen to wait until they get to a supported release, with API’s they’ll stand behind, before we rehost on the latest version. The good news is that we’re working on just that in parallel with the MyEclipse 4.1 work and hope to be shipping milestones based on WTP 1.0 in the first quarter of next year. Once we begin doing that, we’ll continue to stay on top of the WTP versions to eventually become part of the Eclipse 3.2 “release train” with MyEclipse 5.0. So, while there is an incompatibility problem now, please know that we’re aware of it and have begun to address it. Not only that, but we’ll ensure that as we migrate we remain backward compatible so that all the great stuff you’ve done in MyEclipse thus far will continue to be supported with out some weird “porting” on your part down the road. Thanks in advance for your patience as we work though the migration.

The 4.1M2 will be available shortly – can you provide any details on the features you need from Hibernate tools that are missing in ME4.1M2?
Bernd MaierhoferMemberIt´s just prototyping HSQL – I am fairly new to Hibernate and this would allow me to play and learn without having to code something.

Robert BatyMemberScott,
I read your response to Bernd with regard to MyEclipse support for the WTP platform.“The good news is that we’re working on just that in parallel with the MyEclipse 4.1 work and hope to be shipping milestones based on WTP 1.0 in the first quarter of next year.”
I was on the Eclipse site today and saw that WTP 1.0 was released. I was going to try and install it but then I thought it might interfere with my current ME 4.0.3 installation. Can ME 4.0.3 users install WTP 1.0? How about ME 4.1 users?
In addition, I am looking to install the JBossIDE 1.5 version once it goes final. Will this interfere with my ME installation?
Thanks,
Robert
Scott AndersonParticipantRobert,
In all honesty, we don’t cross-test MyEclipse in the stacks you’re asking about so I can’t say definitively. However, if you try these out I hope you’ll let us know what you find out. Going forward as we, JBoss, IBM, BEA, and everyone else migrate on top of WTP 1.0 these types of problems will only diminish. Of course there’s simply a lag time from the time the platform is ready (WTP) until all the IDE’s can be ported over and tested appropriately. Thanks in advance for your patience as we all try to get on top of the same “plaing field”.
