There are a ton of MyEclipse users out here who are locked behind firewalls with timid IT people who would rather protect themselves than increase productivity of us development types.
Version 7.0 of MyEclipse, not being able to install updates by download/install or by downloading and installing them from the archived update, has completely stymied developers in the behind-the-firewall situation.
Also, I don’t know if you’ve still got a lot of debug switches turned on in 7.0 that will be turned off in a future update, but I’ve noticed a marked increase in loading time with this version (Dell Optiplex GX745 Core 2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz with 2GB RAM (not the absolute latest, but no slouch)). Then of course there’s the building workspace process and the search for automatic updates (… and I only have about 5 projects in my new 7.0 workspace) all of which delay or interrupt use of the IDE until they’re finished.
New features are nice, but not if they can’t be implemented and/or they bog down the program to an unusable state.

Loyal WaterMemberDoug,
When we released 7.0.1, we updated the archived update site on the Download portion of the website so folks in locked down environments can pickup changes that way. I hope that helps.January 12, 2009 at 1:35 pm #293410
Ed rossMemberSince upgrading to myeclipse 7.0 I’ve been getting these messages at various times during the day. Most want to communicate with “www.poweredbypulse.com” but seem to come from various sites.
How can I turn the “feature” off – really don’t want to use pulse at this time.
Message:

No we don’t want to open our firewall any furtherJanuary 12, 2009 at 3:12 pm #293424@support-nipun wrote:

I hope that helps.I’m afraid the problem is, unless they’ve changed how you get at the archived update, you can’t do it any longer. At least the instructions at the download page for the archived update are no longer valid
“To use: be sure Eclipse 3.4 “Classic” is installed. Download the MyEclipse archived update then go to Help > Software Updates > Available Software > Add Site > Archive… > Select the archived update site you downloaded > OK. Select features “MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench” and any additional ones you descire like “Matisse4MyEclipse” and then click “Install…” following the install wizard to completion.”The instructions above can’t be followed.

Loyal WaterMemberDoug,
Im sorry for the confusion. You need to setup 7.0.1 over Eclipse 3.4. The instructions that you have pointed out to be incorrect are actually correct. I guess you were trying to update from 7.0 to 7.0.1 using the archive update site. -
