I created coupla simple screens and downloaded it to my
iphone – worked as advertised.

The solution I need is that of a native app – that works
even w/o internet access (e.g. airplane mode).

I noticed that there was no app icon for the app. I understand
that can be added.

I also noticed that the app was hosted inside a browser window..
that is with the url window and browser toolbar at the bottom.

Any way for a more native app look w/o the browser interface.

also the app needs to work w/o internet access..just like any
app or is it always downloaded from a server when starting
up.

thanks..just making final evaluation to see whether this tool
will fit the bill.

p.s. the look in the test-center displays the app w/o the browser
add-ons whereas the downloaded app on the iphone has the
browser address bar + the toolbar.

Offline support is available via the HTML AppCache capability of the iOS mobile safari browser. It is enabled by default in MobiOne. See the screenshot below of this setting on the root design page of you user interface. Also the default value can set at Windows>Settings>HTML Generation See attachment offline-info.png

Try this offline app in the Test Center:
1) Device>Network>Offline; see the airplane icon on the status bar
2) launch Sticky Notes from the homescreen

On the iphone device hiding of the buttonbar (browser nav buttons) is only available when the webapp is saved to the homescreen. There are settings on both the Design Center and Test Center to reveal the buttonbar but most users don’t want to see it or be hassled with it until they are ready to deploy. The Test Center also provides the Browser>Strict Web Clip Mode that will forces buttonbar behavior exactly as on the iphone; that is, the buttonbar is only hidden for webapps launched from the homescreen.

this webapp builder seems to fit the bill.

re the caching – i also set the Page Architecture to Static
ok?

we won’t be downloading dynamic pages remotely – but
the DOM will be modified.

The “static” architecture is the default as it works for online and offline requirements. One trade-off to be aware of is that on first load the entire webapp and all resources are downloaded and cached. Also on startup, the webapp will do a quick check for available updates. If they are found it will attempt to download the updates.
