    Hello,

I downloaded MyEclipse for the first time two days ago. I installed it and worked most of the way through the Web Development and Deployment Tutorial. Things seemed to be working. I was impressed. But things stopped working, bit by bit it seemed. Something is really wrong now. I’ve been trying everything I can think of. But here, let me give one specific problem that you can respond to.

The HelloWorld project in the tutorial worked in most ways, at first at least. Now I’m trying follow the same steps in the tutorial to create another new project. So I go:
    File –> New –> Project… –> J2EE –> Web Module Project –> Next

    I get a “J2EE Library Error:
    J2EE libraries not configured or disabled…. ”

Now I will try to give the specific information you ask for in the Forum Posting Guidelines:

    I am running Windows 2000, SP 4,
Eclipse Version: 2.1.2, Build id: 200311030802.

(you ask) – Was Eclipse freshly installed for MyEclipse?
    No.

    – If not, was it upgraded to its current version using the update manager?
Probably, but I upgraded a few months ago and don’t recall.

    – Are any other external plugins installed?
    I don’t think so.

    – How many plugins in the <eclipse>/plugins directory are like org.eclipse.pde.*

    I count seven (7).

    MyEclipse version: 2.6.200

    java -version:
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.0-b92, mixed mode)

(you ask_ What steps did you take that resulted in the issue?
Well, I’m almost 56 years old. Where should I start? I was following the steps in the Tutorial, got about 2/3 the way through, started noticing that some things were not working. Since then I’ve been trying things, for a day. That’s why I present just the one issue, the J2EE Library Error, to be specific.

Running Tomcat 5.0.16, although I don’t think that’s involved with the specific problem I raise.

No new entries appear in the <workspace>/.metadata/.log , at the time this J2EE Library Error occurs.

    Thank you,

Rich let me throw some suggestions out there:

    1) JDK 1.4.0 has lots of bugs, so as a general rule of thumb its good to upgrade if you. If you can’t, no worries.
    2) Open up Windows->Preferences->MyEclipse->J2EE->Library Sets->J2EE 1.3->”Disable library set?”, is this checked? If so, uncheck it and try again
    3) I *believe* there is suppose to be 8 plugins in the dir you mentioned… either way a universally good way to troubleshoot an eclipse problem is to install a fresh copy. Export your preferences from the first one and import them into the new one. And reinstall MyEclipse. This is a unoptiomal solution, but plugin conflict is a problem with eclipse and sometimes manifests itself strangely (oddities like you are seeing).

Let me know if you need more help, that’s my job 🙂
