I tried installing MyEclipse rev 8.0 on Windows XP on my 16 gb usb flash drive, to see if I could improve performance. The installer suggests drive C:\Program Files … but allows me to pick the drive & directory I want. However. when I select a directory on the flash drive, my entry gets a red X next to it and the only option that is active is “Back”

Is there any way around this limitation?

    Thanks

    John,

It is recommended you select a physical drive and not your USB Flash Drive. Why do you want the installer to copy the installer files to your USB Flash drive?

I have a horribly slow system with an old processor and 5400 rpm drive. MyEclipse takes upwards of 8 minutes to fully load.

I definitely need an new system but the company is watching expenditures 🙂 So,I thought the Flash Drive might improve performance. Maybe I will just get an SSD,

    Thanks

    John,

Yes, you can use an SSD. Or you can also install ME 8.5, this is currently released only on pulse. The installers are getting ready, and will be out soon on the download site too. Using ME 8.5 GA, you can also remove any features which are not needed in your MyEclipse profile using the MyEclipse dashboard. This way, it will be light and you can also see a better performance.

Thanks for the info. I will try 8.5 first then buy an SSD later if needed.

Has anyone had experience using an SSD to install ME. Any performance benefits?

    John,

ME 8.5 installers are available on the download site as well. Give it a shot. I haven’t seen any posts from users who had experience using an SSD to install ME. SSDs are much more faster than traditional HDD.
