I have a bug on the production machine. So I need to install MyEclispe (PRO 2014) on the remote instance (SUSE Linux 12 Amazon EC2 cloud instance). Here are the issues I encountered:

Copied the myeclipse-pro-2014-GA-offline-installer-linux.run to the remote /home/ec2-instance

    Then,

    ./myeclipse-pro-2014-GA-offline-installer-linux.run myeclipse-pro-2014-GA-offline-installer-linux.run

    Starting installer – please wait…
    – Preparing install engine
    – Extracted install engine
    – No DISPLAY variable set
Make sure you have a DISPLAY environmental variable set.

If Java can run on your system without the DISPLAY variable,
run this installer with the –gui argument to skip this check.

Alternatively, you can run in unattended mode using

That is, there is NO display attached to the instance. What should I do?

    Thanks

    Eugene,

Could you briefly mention the nature of the bug and how MyEclipse can help to fix it, with no display? MyEclipse is a GUI application.

In any case, did you try the -gui argument as mentioned in the message? Also, you appear to have used a spurious argument with the installer: the name of the installer itself, which isn’t required. As mentioned in your post, the unattended installation may also help, though that does throw up a dialog, even though no interaction is required. This FAQ explains how to run the installer without further interaction.
