sbodzinMemberI have colleagues who have raved about MyEclipse so I am trying to get it up and running on my PC to use as a JSP/Java Bean development environment. I downloaded and installed Eclipse (filename eclipse-SDK-3.0-win32.zip) and then myEclipse (filename EnterpriseWorkbenchInstaller_030702.exe) for the first time today. The ZIP file was not self extracting. Instead, I just extracted all the files to the appropriate sub-directories.
When I go to create a New Web Module Project I select File, New… but I do not see a choice for “J2EE”. The window that comes up has only one pane (as opposed to the two pane window I see in the help files). Any help you can give me in resolving this issue is most appreciated as I am really looking forward to using the product.
I am able to see the myEclipse Icon when I select “Help, About Eclipse Platform”. In addition, when I select “Window, Preferences…” I do have an option for myEclipse.
I’ve answered as many of the Posting Guideline questions as I can below. Please let me know if you need more info.
Thanks,
– Sandy

Riyad KallaMemberSandy,
If you are using the final release of Eclipse 3.0 you will need to download the Manual Install for MyEclipse 3.8Beta1, that is the only version compatible with the final release of Eclipse 3.0. The version you have now actually requires Eclipse 3.0M8 which is pretty old at this point. We haven’t gotten a chance to update the installer for the 3.8Beta1 to detect Eclipse 3.0 final, that is why I mentioned that you need to grab the Manual Install. Once you get the Manual Install downloaded, go ahead and unzip it to a directory where you would like MyEclipse to live (e.g. C:\MyEclipse-3.8beta1) and then follow the instructions that are included with it. They are quite detailed and have screenshots to walk you through every step.
Please let us know if you need any help.

Riyad KallaMemberSandy,
Scott has properly pointed out to me that the normal MyEclipse Installer WILL work just fine with Eclipse 3.0, that was my mistake. You don’t need to download the Manual Install, you should be able to download the normal MyEclipse 3.8 Beta 1 installer and use it just fine.Sorry for the mixup.

Glad to hear it!
July 2, 2004 at 7:24 am #209325Hi folks,
I’m having problems intalling 3.8Beta1 on a Eclipse 3.0 (eclipse-SDK-3.0-win32.zip) version as well. It says I need a “3.0M9+” version.
Do I need to do a manual install? I gathered from earlier replies in this thread that the installation program should work. So, I’m doing something wrong – but what?! :o)
I’ve uninstalled earlier versions of MyEclipse before trying to install the new one. My OS is XP.

Scott AndersonParticipantFredrik,
There was a problem with the installer recognizing one of the release candidates, but this was fixed a couple weeks ago. If your download is recent, it should work. I donwloaded and installed it myself a couple days ago and it worked fine on my XP laptop. Of course, if you have multiple Eclipse installation you must be absolutely sure to specify the correct ‘eclipse’ directory when prompted. But, for cases when we just can’t figure out remotely what’s up, the manual installer zip provides an easy out. The instructions for manual installation are in the zip and quite straightforward.
