jkrisarMemberHi all,
I’m having problems installing the MyEclipse workbench 4.0.3 with Eclipse 3.1.1 on Windows XP. The installer gets to “Install… Uninstall MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench v4.0.3.exe” and then seems to hang. After cancelling the installation program, it does seem the installation is OK – but is it safe to proceed?
Details:
I’m attempting to install the MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench v4.0.3 on my Sony VAIO VGN-S3XP Laptop running Windows XP (English, SP2, all the latest updates).
Have installed Eclipse v3.1.1 (in directory “C:\Program Files\Eclipse\eclipse-myeclipse”), as well as Java JDK and JRE version 1.5.0_06 (in C:\Java\jdk1.5.0_06 and C:\Java\jre1.5.0_06, no other versions installed), and have attempted installation both after having started the Eclipse environment once (terminating it before attempting the installer) and not ever having started it after unpacking the Eclipse zip.
When attempting to install MyEclipse into the directory “C:\Program Files\Eclipse\MyEclipse-4.0.3”, what happens is that the installer proceeds nicely to the point where it says “Installing… Uninstall MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench v4.0.3.exe”, where I see only sporadic disk activity. Even though I’ve left the installation program alone to work for hours, I see no additional progress.
I’ve made sure all applications I can easily turn off have been shut down after a clean reboot of my system. (Haven’t gone through the trouble of turning off quite all system services…) I do have Norton Internet Security installed, but turning it off doesn’t seem to have had any effect.
Cancelling the installation program does work, so the installation program hasn’t hung entirely. This action creates a log file that is 939 kB in size, beginning with the summary:

Have also attempted to re-download both the Eclipse package and the MyEclipse installer, just in the unlikely case there would have been any freakish errors surviving both the download and unpacking checksum procedures. Same result.
After cancelling the installation, I’m still able to start the MyEclipse workbench through the program group installed in the Start menu by the installation program. I’ve created a MyEclipse project and so far, haven’t run into any problems… Haven’t attempted to uninstall MyEclipse however – this may still be a problem.
Have attempted to Google this problem, but didn’t find any recent information looking relevant. Does anyone have information on how to proceed, either to successfully complete the installation program or to find more information in the debugging process? Or is it safe to simply proceed (which I’ll most likely do anyhow, pending any replies)?

– Johan

GregMemberJohan,
The packaged installer sometimes doesn’t work well for unknown reasons. Even though it appears your installation is working I would download the manual install package from the download page and install that as well. You can find the manual download on the same download page of the automated installer. The installation instructions are included in the zip file as well.
