My first attempt at installing myEclipse 4.0 and then 4.1 on a box here caused the system to lock-up completely when starting to open the dialogs for settings.

System config:
Athlon XP 2900+
Windows XP SP 2 with all latest patches
ATI Fire GL T2 Card with latest driver

I installed JDK 1.4.2_05 and Eclipse 3.1.1.

Removing the ATI video card and files changed install behavior from hard system lock-up to a dialog saying:
Win32 Error: 0 File: “” Line: 17742 – In the title bar
Text: The operation completed successfully.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Hmm sounds like a direct3d issues, atleast that is my guess.

Try installing and using JDK 1.5.0_06 or just use the manual install. Eclipse doesn’t use the same D3D acceleration that Swing does so Eclipse should run fine but the installer is Swing which is why it might be exacerbating the problem in the driver.

I ended up rebuilding the box from scratch (since I had just built it anyway) and performing the install as one of the first steps made everything go fine.

I had problems getting the Fire GL card to actually run on the system after that until I upgraded the BIOS. So, it was definitely something in the install that conflicted with the card that caused the initial crashes.

I originally had JDK 1.5.0_06 for the install and had downgraded to see if that was the issue with no success. So for now I’m just chalking it up to some unkown combination of installer, graphics card, and BIOS.

Very strange, glad it’s working now. If you ever run into the problem again, use the manual install. It’s an easy 2-step process; instructions are included in the download.
