    Hello,

I removed XML Buddy Pro (2.0.75) at R’s suggestion that it was causing problems in MyEclipse 5.1. I restarted MyE with the -clean option.

Although the MyE XML editor then works fine, the JSP Designer does not.

Picking a simple JSP file that the MyE environment creates with “New JSP”, and using the MyE option of open with the JSP designer, all I get is a blank gray screen with the tab entitled JSP Designer.

Thus, I appear to have some other configuration problem with MyE 5.1.

I posted in the installation summary in the posting earlier this week.

Any ideas on what the JSP Designer problem could be or what I should try next? Presumably, other designers may also be affected.

    Thanks.

P.S. I submitted a bug report earlier this week to the XML Buddy Pro folks regarding the XML editor issue for them to investigate relative to MyE. I have not heard anything from them on this submission.

    Mork,
I believe this is an upgrade issue we are troubleshooting right now with a few users and trying to figure out things on our end. When MyEclipse is upgraded from 5.0.1 to 5.1, using the update manager in *some* cases if certain libraries are installed from the Callisto Discovery site, you can end up with a wonky install of MyEclipse.

The workaround (I know, it’s a big workaround) at the moment is a clean reinstall of MyEclipse using the All-In-One installer to a new directory and reopening your existing workspace to continue working. We are working on fixing this as fast as possible (assuming there is going to be a fix for it that can be deployed over an update) and I’m sorry for the heavy handed workaround, as soon as I find something lighter, I’ll let you guys know.

NOTE: We had a few users report this problem, and it turned out it was due to them having two versions of MyEclipse enabled under their Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration screen… unfortunate it seems that not everyone having this problem has two extensions listed, so this may or may not work for your particular install.

    Yikes!!!

PLEASE DON’T MAKE ME DO A ‘CLEAN INSTALL’!!!

This type of problem — requiring a clean install — isn’t expected when going to a “x.1” release.

I hope you can fix this issue soon in an update.

Thanks very much and thanks, as always for your reply. <s>

    Mork,
I think we got it fixed. After hours of trouble shooting we traced down the problem to a plugin (modified version of WST) that we ship to support our new validation-exclusion functionality. We forgot to bump the version number, so what is happening is folks that have WST/JST installed from the Callisto update site, are causing Eclipse to load that version instead of the modified MyEclipse version, which is making MyEclipse die.

We fixed the update site, so future updates should work. But for existing broken installs, the fix seems to be popping open the Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuraiton screen, and disabling the WST/JST plugins contributed from your Eclipse install, then restarting. Which should allow the MyEclipse versions to load.

Very sorry for the trouble, this was a doosey to track down.

    OK, thanks.

When I went to Manage Configuration, it’s not clear how I “disable” the WST/JST items in the Base MyE stuff. Can you elaborate what you had in mind? When I go to the Properties page, there’s nothing there that’s selectable (or even says “Disable”). Right click doesn’t say anything useful either.

Also, by disabling them, will all be OK the next update with no re-enabling or anything?

    Thanks again in advance.

    Mork,
This user gave some great steps that worked for him:
    https://www.genuitec.com/forums/topic/closed-myeclipse-5-1-web-2-0-browser-on-linux/#post-262174

What he effectively did is go to the manage configuration screen, disable his 5.1 update, go back to 5.0.1. Then restarted and re-applied the 5.1 update from the update site, which picks up our fixed plugin that had the problem and everything is working. See if you can follow his steps (last post) and if they work.

okay, that seemed to work. Never done anything quite like that before in MyE.

When the download for 5.1 ran (after I went back to 5.0 in manage config), it only downloaded the “fixed” file, not the entire 5.1 update.

Thanks very much for your help.

Oh very cool it looks like it’s picking up the correct plugin then, thank you for letting me know Mork, I’ll pass that along.
