Is it safe to install the 4.1 M2 release of MyEclipse when I have 4.0.3 already installed?
Just install M2 in another directory? No side-effect issues to consider?
I don’t want to mess up my production copy (4.0.3).
Personally I would wait if all you wanted to do was try out 4.1, the GA release is due out at the end of the month and we are fixing up a lot and tightening it down.
Is it OK to just install M2 over top of my MyEclipse 4.0.3 installation folder?
No, definately not a good idea.
Your site says M2 “isn’t for production use”, but doesn’t that just refer to the new features in M2? I mean, I should be able to use the 4.0.3 subset in M2 with no problems, right?
That is a good question, the answer is really “no” though considering that during development we can replace entire feature sets with improved tools that have been in internal development, or maybe we are working on the underlying MyEclipse framework in which case existing functionality might be broken or replaced.
Maybe 4.1 will be out shortly and I should just wait?
If you don’t mind waiting a few weeks it’s probably a safer bet.
