    Hello,

Riyad had mentioned a while back that he was going to try to get a native Cocoa version of MyEclipse for the Mac for a recent version. As it turned out, getting the latest Windows version out the door trumped this desired goal. 🙁

MyEclipse is my tool of choice, but I can’t use your non-native Mac verrsion on the mac without serious problems. Problems like new web service doesn’t bring up a dialog, menu problems, etc..

Eclipse, on the other hand, has had for some time a native version for the Mac (there’s a Cocoa version), but standard Eclipse doesn’t have your productivity tools.

I’ve tried (and even paid for) other tools that just don’t work as well as MyE.

Can you please give me an update (hopefully good news!) on when you’ll get a native MyEclipse version for the Mac?

    Thanks very much.

    M,

I use a Mac too so let me start by saying that the MyEclipse 8.5 release fixes several Mac-specific issues. A couple of them were unique to MyEclipse’s code but many are the result of SWT fixes in Eclipse 3.5.2, upon which ME 8.5 is based.

As for a Cocoa version, the big holdup is the complete unavailability of a Cocoa version of the XUL Runner libraries from either Mozilla or Eclipse. That library is critical to such features as Javascript debugging, some of the web service tools, etc. Until one is made available, we’re a bit stuck there. So, while the Mac UI continues to get much better, Cocoa support is still aways off.

    Thanks Scott.

I’d love to ditch my VM Fusion Windows installation, but it sounds like it’ll need to hang around a bit longer…

    Thanks again.

I run MyEclipse 8.5 on the Mac without any issues. You really should give it a try in native mode again.

OK. I can’t figure out Intellij IDEA anyway. Very counter-intuitive (especially deployments and such). Don’t know if you’ve ever tried it.

I’ll download and install 8.5 on the Mac right now and let you know what problems, if any, I run into.

Before, I couldn’t create a new web service project from the ~ directory. Menus cut off, stuff like that.

    Thanks Scott.

No worries. That’s why we’re here.
