    Hello,

I am trying to deploy my EAR files and include the .java source files. When the EAR is deployed I cannot find anywhere to set it to include the original .java source files that we have created. If I want to include them, I either have to zip them up separatly or I have to add them in by hand to the EAR file. I am using the latest version of eclipse and myeclipse.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Jamey

    Jamey,
This is correct, source code shouldn’t be included in a deployable. MyEclipse packages up the completed/compiled project and deploys it. If you have to have source with that, you could look at a custom ant script or something along those lines.

Is there a reason you need to deploy source with your app? That’s typically seen as a security issue.

We would like a quick and easy way to package our portlets we develop so that other departments/campuses can make modifications to the original source – recompile and deploy on their systems.

In the past, we deploy an ear and include the source in a separate zip. This works, but it would be much easier if we can deploy the ear’s to include the source since we have quite a few portlets. The other issue is that not all developers are using myeclipse – some are using JDeveloper so we want to make sure they can import them as well.

Can’t these systems be checked into a source control system for the best of all works and just provide read-only anonymous access to the other folks?

Now suggestions aside I realize you probably want to stick with what you have been doing as it’s worked so far, unfortunately I don’t have a great suggestion for you besides writing an Ant script that puts the source somewhere easy to access after the deployment is created.

There is a suggestion of making your source and output dirs the same (WEB-INF/classes) so both the source and output are contained in the same dir, but I hate this approach so much I’d almost rather tell you there wasn’t a nice way to do this then suggest that.

Yup – all our source code is in source control, but we are all on different networks – so they would have to vpn in or retrieve them some other way – since they are on different campuses.

I was just hoping for a quick “include source” option – and thought I was just missing it somewhere. We will probably continue down the same path we have been for the time being.

    Thanks for you help!

I better understand your situation now, I’m sorry I couldn’t provide you with a more integrated solution.
