Have run across method to zip content and change the suffix from .zip to .ipa, and it is supposed to download to the device “as if it were an actual app.”

Assuming this works, what files need to be included in the zip file?

Would like to experiment with this process, so any advice/help/suggestions would be helpful.

    Thanks.

IPA files are, basically, zip files (you can open them with unzipping software), however you cannot install the app that way. To install any app without using Apple software requires that the device be jailbroke.

    Thanks Cindy.

Actually, wasn’t really worried about installing as an app, but installing it on the device so it can be accessed via SAFARI.

This is a huge reference document and rather than make it a full-fledged app, would just like to zip it up and allow device users to copy it to their phone/pad and access it via an icon.

The main problem is that the document needs to be accessed when no wi-fi or phone connection is available, re: during an electrical blackout, or underground where no signal is available.

Open to wisdom and suggestions on how to pull it off without alot of drama on the client-side of the device.

An web app with offline cache mode should work.

How do we get device users to invoke an offline cache?

These are internal documents that can be made available via a secure website.

Sorry to be dumb on this side of things, but we are not programmers.

Monbione include a app cache feature in Offline Support setting. Support might be able to give more details on the finer points.
