    Hi all,

this is my first post. 🙁

    I’m using Eclipse 2.1.2 with MyEclipse 2.7 GA in a Windows 2000
I also have installed JBoss 3.2.1 with Tomcat 4.1.24

The problem i have is that everytime i insert a breakpoint either in a Session Bean, or a JSP the debugger simply skips it. I know that those breakpoints are correctly positioned since i have followed the tutorial demos in every single step.

So my question is: Is there anything to activate in Eclipse to do so ?

    Thanks a lot.

    Ogn.

    Ogn,
This is actually asked quite often and unfortunately its not more predominately displayed. You will need to upgrade to JBoss 3.2.4 if you need full debugging support; the problem is that in order to debug, you need a container that supports the JSR 45 (debugging) spec, and currently Tomcat 5 is a good example of a container that does… however I believe JBoss didn’t move over to Tomcat 5 until version 3.2.4 which is in beta right now IIRC.

Debug does not work on with
    1) j2sdk1.4.2_4,
    2) Tomcat 5.0.x,
    3) 2.1.2 eclipse and
    4) 2.7 myeclipse
when tomcat is set to use https. Is this a bug or
    a configuration problem ? 🙁

You’re saying that when you use http:// on the page the breakpoint works and when you use https:// on the page it doesn’t? How are you configuring Tomcat to use https for your web app?

    My Eclipse 200402281200-2.7.0-GA
    Eclipse 2.1.2
    Apache Tomcat/5.0.19
JVM Version: 1.3.1_09-b03 Sun Microsystems Inc.
    OS: Windows 2000 5.0 x86

I am trying to debug my web app. First off breakpoints in the jsp pages don’t work.

Seccond if I pass through too much code eventually I will get an error with no error code but telling me info will be in the error log.. Where is the error log file?

    vmfly,
The reason you are having trouble debugging is because debugging requires a JSR 45 compliant container (which you have with Tomcat 5) but it also requires that you be running the app server with a 1.4+ Java VM, which you are not doing. We usually suggest people to use JDK 1.4.1+ as there were many bugs in the 1.4.0 release of the JDK especially w.r.t. to debugging.

I was using Tomcat 5.0.19 which is the latest build from jakarta.
    I used htts://mylocalhost:8443/my_context_path/myaction.do
The modification for https inside server.xml is to uncommet the
https section. That’s it. I got it work well with sysdeo Tomcat Plug-in but
it does not work when I switched to MyEclipse plug.

    thanks

But did it work when using http:// instead of https://? I’m trying to determine if the issue is a general debugging problem or if it is specific to using https.

It works prefectly well on http.

    scott,

Can you check the status of debug problem with https. It debugs prefectly ok on http.
It totally failed to debug on https.

    thanks

I’ve submitted a bug report on it. The dev team will research it in the 2.8 timeline. Sorry, but I really have no idea, based on first principals, why https would make any difference.
