I was using Eclipse 3.1.2 sofar. I would like to use MyEclipse.
I installed trial version of MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench 5 GA.
Then I checked out my EAR project from CVS into MyEclipse.
    I configured JBoss server.

Simply what problem I have was

I could not open an XML. It says
“Unable to create this part due to an internal error. Reason for the failure: Project mlo.ear is not configured as a MyEclipse Web-Struts Project. Therefore the MyEclipse Struts Editor may not be used with initialApp.xml. The default XML Editor has been used to open the file instead.”
    Details shows
“org.eclipse.ui.PartInitException: Project mlo.ear is not configured as a MyEclipse Web-Struts Project. Therefore the MyEclipse Struts Editor may not be used with initialApp.xml. The default XML Editor has been used to open the file instead.
    at com.genuitec.eclipse.struts.editor.multipage.StrutsConfigEditor.init(StrutsConfigEditor.java:475) …”

I tried File Association. It didnt work. I tried associating “MyEclipse Struts Config Editor” it is giving me “Unable to create this part due to an internal error. Reason for the failure: Unable to open editor, unknown editor ID: org.xmen.ui.text.XMLTextEditor”

I could only succeed associating a simple text editor for the .xml files.

In the MyEclipse TAB in the top menu, “Add Struts Capabilties” etc are disabled.

Now, I think I am missing a big picture.

I would be glad if someone tells me what I am missing. If you guide me a little, I will pick it up

    Thanks for your time

I was having my project (checked out from CVS) into Eclipse 3.1.2. It was working perfect with good editors etc. The EAR structure of this project as shown in the development environment of Eclipse 3.1.2 Navigator; [] means a directory:

    [project.ear]

      [.settings]
      [conf]
      [documents]
      [lib]
      [META-INF]
      [utility]
      [projectWeb.war]
      [html]
      [jsp]
      [META-INF]
      [src]
      [WEB-INF]
      [classes]
      [lib]
Struts and web xml config files

    [web-lib]
    other files

After deployed into JBoss 4, it looks like this in the directory [C:\jboss-4.0.3SP1\server\default\deploy\project.ear\]

      [.setting]
      [conf]
      [CVS]
      [documents]
      [lib]
      [META-INF]
      [utility]
      [projectWeb.war]
      [CVS]
      [help]
      [html]
      [jsp]
      [META-INF]
      [src]
      [WEB-INF]
      [classes]
      [lib]
      struts-config xmls and web.xml

    [web-lib]

    other management files

I think my EAR structure is correct and ok in Eclipse 3.1.2.

I would like to shift to MyEclipse IDE.

I do not know if the EAR structure needs to be changed to treat this CVS checked out project as an “Enterprise Application Project” or a “Web Project” in MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench 5 GA IDE.

I assumed not since the same project EAR structure worked as a “Java Project” in Eclipse 3.1.2.

Do you guys have any suggestions.

Or I can put a simple question, I have a project with the above-shown EAR structure in CVS and working with Eclipse 3.1.2 as a “Java Project“; Now in order to shift it to MyEclipse 5Enterprise Application Project“, can you give me some guidelines or suggestions.

    Thanks for your time.

Sorry for the confusing error message (from your first post). What you need to do is let MyEclipse first know that this project is a “Web project”, you do that by right clicking on your project and going down to MyEclipse and add web capabilities. The default web root directory is called “/WebRoot” but from the look of your project outline, I think you want to make this “/projectWeb.war”.

Next you will want to add Struts Capabilities to the project, being sure to map the files to the correct locations as well, then MyEclipse will understand your project as a web-struts project.

Lastly, the EAR project in MyEclipse is a meta-project that you assign modules to (web, ejb and java) that get packaged and deployed. The EAR project itself will not hold any code. So to map your project to an EAR project you will need to create a new Enterprise Application Project, with a single web module (select your existing web project or create a new one) and go from there.

This can get confusing, if you’d like some help let me know and I may be able to fix up your project for you and send it back to you.

Thank you so much rkalla. I will try this and let you know soon if I need any help. Sorry I posted another topic (with a little twist), I tried and ran out of patience. We can close that topic as we are having a hold on this one.

However, since my project is already having the struts capability, do you want me to remove those struts library JARS and add through MyEclipse.

    Rest I will post soon.

Yes you need to add the Struts capabilities through MyEclipse, but what you can do is uncheck the “Add libraries” button at the bottom, and it will just use your existing Struts libraries.
