    Hi,

I come from a Visual C++ backgroud where a workspace can handle several projects, knowing that we can have as many workspaces as wanted according to the way we like to get organised.

With eclipse, it looks more sophisticated. Could any one help and tell how to organise my projects. In case i have several applications can i have a workspace per application ?

What i want to do now is to develop several applications. Will i have to put them in the same workspace in different projects ?

    Thanks.

    P.S. Am working with Java.

That’s the normal approach. With each instance of Eclipse, you get access to precisely one workspace. Which workspace you connect to can be changed on the commandline when Eclipse is launched. If your applications are particularly large and you therefore need a large number of projects to contain the entire thing, you might opt for 1 application = 1 workspace full of a large number of projects. Typically, however, applications map to one or only a few projects in which case one workspace can accommodate multiple applications quite easily. It’s really personal preference on how you like to organize things. If you’re a consultant and will work with lots of clients, then I’d recommend one workspace per client simply to ensure there is no ‘cross-pollination’ between them.

The -data command line is what you want:
    For example:

    eclipse.exe -data c:\workspaces\workspace1

or have another link for another client like:

    eclipse.exe -data c:\workspaces\workspace2

Your workspace contains everything for that instances of Eclispe, its really quite handy 😉
