    MyEclipse 7.5 M1
    Windows XP SP3 32bit
    4GB RAM

I am new to the Java platform and MyEclipse. I realize that MyEclipse is very robust compared to the standard Eclipse, so I expected a fair amount of memory usage.

Just on startup, with no project loaded, MyEclipse uses 300MB+.

    Is this normal?

What is the procedure (if any) to reduce the amount of memory that MyEclipse consumes?

You can go to Windows > Prefs > General > Capabilities > Advanced and uncheck the capabilities that you are not using. Does that help?

We’ll be doing a lot more modularization work in MyEclipse 8.0 to really allow users a lot more customization opportunities.

I removed a few items in that area, however, the changes will not save between MyEclipse sessions.

I also looked at Windows > Preferences > General > Startup and Shutdown. Would adjusting plugin loading have much of an affect on memory usage of the IDE?

What did you try turning off in the Capabilities menu that didn’t “stick” between launches?

This wont make a very big difference but you can try it.

    I unchecked the following capabilities:
    Extended Oracle Database Support
Extended SQL Server / Sybase Database Support
    Javascript Debugging
    Screen Capture

None of the above changes are saving.

I did uncheck all of Team Support (It’s just me after all), and this did save.

Thank you for bringing this to our notice. I’ll file this for investigation right away.
