    Hi,

I have MyEclipse 6.6 (Pulse) installed. What’s the best way to upgrade to 7.1? I tried to “check for update”. It seems not upgrading to 7.1.

    Thanks.

    Wei,
You cannot upgrade directly from 6.6 to 7.1 since the base eclipse version changed from 3.3 to 3.4. You will have to download the 7.1 All in One installer and use that to setup MyEclipse 7.1 from scratch.

Is using the All-in-One the preferred method vs. upgrading to Eclipse Classic 3.4.1 then using the update manager?

I’m SHOCKED that the main 7.1 download page doesn’t have a discussion of this at the beginning — especially not mentioning that you should NOT install the latest Eclpise (3.4.2) because 7.1 doesn’t work with it!! The big title says ” Eclipse 3.4.x downloads” … implying any 3.4 version. That really should be changed.

Yes, using All-in-One installer is the preferred method for upgrading from ME 6.6 to ME 7.1 as the base eclipse changed from Eclipse 3.3 to Eclipse 3.4.1.
My sincere apologies that download page displays Eclipse 3.4.x. At the time MyEclipse 7.1 was released, the eclipse version was Eclipse 3.4.1, hence it shows the image as 3.4.x. There are a lot of changes from Eclipse 3.4.1 to Eclipse 3.4.2, initially the dev team wanted to provide upgrade to any version of Eclipse 3.4.x, but later found out that there are a lot of things which break or are not compatible with a straight upgrade of versions. If you read the release notes – http://www.myeclipseide.com/module-htmlpages-display-pid-409.html, it clearly mentions that MyEclipse 7.1 is based on Eclipse 3.4.1 Ganymede.
Thanks for your suggestion. I will ask the dev team to take a note of the change.
