If you run the 3.8.4 installer, it crashes (could not read 0x0000000)
We had several other programs crash with the same error message, so it seems to be a “side effect” of SP1You can go back to the download section pertaining to the release of Eclipse you are installing against and scroll to the bottom and download the Manual Install. It is a Zip file that includes step-by-step instructions in it. I prefer this as it is really easy to install (you simply unzip and add MyEclipse as an extension using Help > Software Updates > Manage Config menu) and restart.
