    Hello,

I’ve searched for, and seen a few posts, asking about installing Flex 3 builder in MyEclilpse, but I haven’t seen a definitive reponse from Genuitec.

Since MyEclipse is an Eclipse plug-in (and not the other way around <s>), I’m assuming it will be trivial to install any plug-in like the Flex 3 builder.

Is this assumption correct? (I do not want to have to install another copy of Eclipse on my Mac just to run Flex 3 builder.)

    Please reply.

    Thanks.

I have tried installing Flex 3 builder as a plug-in in MyEclipse under the Mac platform (10.5.6) about 5 times, but it doesn’t work.

I installed the plug-in to a random directory, but then went into Add Remove Programs, selected LOCAL and told MyEclipse that the path for the plug-in was this folder:

    com.adobe.flexbuilder.update.site

(note: this folder contains directories with plug-ins for Flex3 and this folder is within the main:

    Adobe Flex Builder 3 Plug-in

    folder.

MyEclipse seems to see that there’s something there when I try to add this com.adobe… folder, but when I restart, there’s no Flex 3 perspective or project types or anything.

How exactly do I correctly install the Flex 3 plug-in???

Never heard back from support today, but I thought I’d post that I finally figured out how to get the Flex plug-in installed.

I suppose the reason support never wrote back is that they didn’t have a Mac handy to help test this or don’t understand the issues with the Mac?

The problem is that (with Flex plug-in installer) with MyEclipse it couldn’t find, on the Mac, the “Eclipse” folder with a “configuration” directory beneath it — which is what the flex installer is looking for. I tried all the directories with a configuration folder beneath it under the Genuitec main folder, but no dice.

Therefore, the install instantly became a non-standard installation with no documentation. There were a couple postings on the MyE site, but they (the ones I saw, anyway) were incomplete and came from users not MyE staff.

    Real fun guys!

After several attempts, I finally got it installed.

On a side note — I hope all the other MyEclipse pieces that have yet to make it to the Mac will be added soon.

    Mork,

Sorry for replying late. This post must have got buried in the list. Good to hear that you have everything figured out. May I request you to post the exact steps taken, which will be helpful to other mac users? Thank you for your help.

    Hi Joy,

Basically, I just had to do a manual install of the plug-in after first “installing” it to a temp folder on the Mac and ignoring the errors.

The main error comes from the fact that the plug-in wants a folder named “configuration” underneath the Eclipse folder which doesn’t exist on the Mac for MyE.

However, since there were no instructions of how to exactly drill down into the local install (I don’t do this often), it took me a couple hours to finally get it right.

    Thanks for your post.

    np, glad to help.

Say, do you know when the rest of the missing functionality from MyEclipse for the Mac will be added?

    Thanks.

    M,

I am not sure what you mean by

rest of the missing functionality from MyEclipse for the Mac

Please refer to MyEclipse features here – http://www.myeclipseide.com/module-htmlpages-display-pid-1.html If you would like to request more features, you are most welcome. You can do that here – https://www.genuitec.com/forums/topics/myeclipse/feature-requests/

Ok, I added a note there. It should be obvious, however, that the Visual Designer is the most obvious missing feature.

I’ll keep using Dreamweaver for now….

    Thanks Joy.
