Riyad KallaMemberAdditional Notes for Installing 3.8.1
Please visit the following URL for instructions on how to update to MyEclipse 3.8.1 cleanly:
http://www.myeclipseide.com/PNphpBB2+file-viewtopic-t-3469.htmlMyEclipse 3.8 Install Instructions
Below are the install instructions for people wanting to upgrade or install MyEclipse 3.8 GA.Requirements:
*Eclipse 3.0 SDK GA Download (~80meg)
*MyEclipse 3.8 GA Download (~55meg)Description:
Installation of MyEclipse 3.8 GA will be slightly different than previous releases in that it will require you to uninstall MyEclipse completely before installing the new release. The reason for this (instead of using the Eclipse Update) is that some plugins were removed between the 3.8 Beta releases and the GA release, most noteworthy are the debug plugins. Unfortunately Eclipse’s Update mechanism does not provide a way to delete or remove plugins, so we will walk you through an entire uninstall then reinstall of MyEclipse 3.8.We will outline two ways to uninstall MyEclipse: one way using the InstallSheild installer and one using the manual install. Both ways will start the same but will end differently. The common 1st step is shown below. After following the 1st step, then select the 2nd step based on how you installed MyEclipse.
Step 1 (Common to both Install Types):
We are going to use the build in “Manage Configuration” functionality from Eclipse. You can open that menu by click Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration…

Now select your MyEclipse installation, right click on it and click “Disable”

Eclipse should now ask you to Restart in order for the changes to be made, go ahead and click “OK”.
After Eclipse restarts, go ahead and shut it down and select the next step depending on how you installed MyEclipse.
Step 2 (InstallShield Installer):
If you installed MyEclipse using the InstallShield installer, then this is the correct Step 2 to use. In this step we will run the Uninstaller to have it go ahead and erase MyEclipse for us.Go ahead and navigate to your Start menu, then Programs and then MyEclipse and then select the “Uninstall MyEclipse” icon. The installer should walk you through the process of uninstalling MyEclipse succesfully. After you are done, skip down to Step 3.
Step 2 (Manual Install OR You don’t know how you installed):
If you installed MyEclipse using the Manual Install or by other means, then this is the correct Step 2 to use. In this step we will manually erase MyEclipse from the directory we originally unzipped it to. Technically even if you installed MyEclipse using the Installer, you could still uninstall it via this step if you preferred (on Windows, the Installer may leave a few useless registry settings behind though, but MyEclipse doesn’t need them). Now open up an explorer Window and navigate to the directory where MyEclipse is installed, select that directory and delete it. Now navigate to your Eclipse install directory and the “links” subdirectory under it. Find the
“com.genuitec.eclipse.MyEclipse.link” file and erase it. Walla, you are done, that was all you needed to do to uninstall MyEclipse. Please continue to Step 3.Step 3 (MyEclipse is uninstalled Now):
Now that MyEclipse is uninstalled, you can now install MyEclipse 3.8 GA using the InstallShield Installer or Manual Install, both downloadable from our site here: http://www.myeclipseide.com/ContentExpress-display-ceid-10.htmlIf you choose to do the Manual Install, its even easier than it was before, be sure to reread the brand new instructions. The new Manual Install (for Eclipse 3.x only) makes use of the “Manage Configuration” functionality in Eclipse to install MyEclipse, there is no need to edit \links files any more!
If you run into any problems or have any questions about the install process, please post to the Installation, Configuration & Upgrade forum here: http://www.myeclipseide.com/PNphpBB2+file-viewforum-f-1.html and we will do what we can to get you up and running.
Happy Upgrading!

erickjMemberHi
I can’t found 3.8 GA in download section, where is it?
August 16, 2004 at 4:51 pm #212144
Scott AndersonParticipantYour a few minutes early. It’s been promoted and will be hooked up *very* soon.

PaulParticipantHey guys – awesome, thanks for the updates and service you continually provide. Note though, #2 on the download page, the Linux version, is listed as only 5.2MB when everything else is over 50MB. I know that has to be a typo, but I did a double take.

Riyad KallaMemberWow, nice catch I sent this off to be checked on, thanks!
August 17, 2004 at 4:46 am #212206Hi Riyad,
I write it here so that you may notice it here faster…
The so-acclaimed-be-brand-new manual-install.html is actually a bit old, and inconsistent, it’d better be corrected. It is about 2.7.0 level mixed in with bits of 3.7.0.
Oh, and I don’t think the manual install zip file should have a CVS folder in img/ 🙂
Regards,
Robert

Scott AndersonParticipantRobert,
Thanks for pointing that out. It looks like the “old” manual install instructions inadvertantly got packaged with
the distribution. I’ll see about getting the correct ones posted on the website.August 17, 2004 at 8:01 am #212224
Marcus BeyerMemberFor what is the “Disable” step necessary? I get less problems without it (e.g. no trouble with org.perfmsr.core).

I would like to second that. Now I can’t enable MyEclipse due to this error. What shall we do now?

Marcus BeyerMemberYou can delete the <eclipse-dir>/configuration directory. BUT this seems to cause even more trouble. After that I did “Scan for updates” and got:
“The current configuration contains errors and this operation can have unpredictable results. Do you want to continue?”

Upon starting Eclipse after the new installation none of the MyEclipse features were enabled. I then checked the ‘MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench 3.8.0’ item in the ‘Product Configuration’ window (found under Help -> Software Updates -> Manage Configuration), it was still disabled and would not re-enable due to errors in the configuration.
To correct this, I exited out of Eclipse then simply edited the “platform.xml” file found in the “.eclipse/org.eclipse.platform_3.0.0/configuration/org.eclipse.update” directory in my user home directory. Remove the MyEclipse site node along with its feature sub-nodes. Then, re-launch Eclipse. Eclipse should automatically discover the MyEclipse plugin. This will also cause a rebuild of the entire workspace. Everything should work fine after this. Your previous MyEclipse preferences will NOT be lost.
I have performed a quick run-through of the MyEclipse features on some of my existing projects and everything seems to work fine now. However, your milage may vary.

Riyad KallaMemberFor those people that are having trouble with disable, are you reinstalling MyEclipse back into a directory with the same name that the previous MyEclipse had? This could be a problem…

Yes. It’s the default, isn’t it?

It shouldn’t — or don’t call it GA. Sorry.
And then I have this problem with deploying my ear: no jars and no wars in it. Not so with the beta2.
To make it short: I totally disagree with your version names.
The steps between your beta versions are far too big – they should be called milestones.
And your GA does not do its work without tricks – it should be called beta.August 17, 2004 at 12:22 pm #212344

And your GA does not do its work without tricks – it should be called beta.+1. Oh, and it’s not just tricks that his release needs, it needs to be taken offline and QA’d for a solid month. There are SO many bugs, I don’t even know where to start describing them. From the installation notes, to the broken project dependencies, to the deployment pane (“select application server for deployment” ha ha), to weird error messages (IWAE0010E? Please!), to the annotations prefs page breaking, this release is a true disaster. And I’ve only spent half a day with it, recreating projects in a fresh workspace. Waste of time.

Right. After a wasted day I am back to “beta 2” until 3.8.2 or later …
