NShwuMemberHi,
I have been using Eclipse for years and have recently switched to use MyEclipse5.1.1 GA release.
When I tried to do Java Search for class reference or any kind, in a specified Working set or in the work space, it always launches the “JSP Search” page instead of “Java Search”, and fails to find the references.
However, if I exit MyEclipse and restart, the java search works in the first try, and then the same problem occurs in any subsequent attempts.
Could you please kindly provide advice on how to trouble shot this problem? The IDE is unworkable without the Java Search.
Best Regards,

Loyal WaterMemberHi Huan,
Have you tried cleaning your workspace ? I suggest you try restarting MyEclipse using the -clean command line argument.Incase that doesn’t help, can you post the information from MyEclipse > Installation Summary > Installation Details here for me?

NShwuMemberHi Nipun,
Thank you very much for prompt reply.
After restarting MyEclipse with -clean, the problem is still there. The very first time when I do Java Search, it will index the java files, find the references, then it starts “JSP Search” which index the jsp files. After that, with any Java Search attempt, it just launches the “JSP Search”, and find no reference.
Here is the info you have requested:

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Riyad KallaMemberHwu,
Do you mean you actually have a “JSP Search” tab on the search menu? MyEclipse doesn’t contribute one… I’m not sure why you are seeing this:Attachments:

NShwuMemberI do not see “JSP Search” tab in the Search menu. But I do see “JSP Search” as the title of the search progress popup window (attach bmp below), and it’s looking through the JSP indexes.

After restarting MyEclipse, the first time when I do Java Search, the popup window title shows “Java Search” first (attach bmp below), after finishing indexing the java files and found the reference, the popup window title then changes to “JSP Search” and starts JSP indexing.

If I then do the same Java Search again, the popup window only shows “JSP Search”, and do not display the references in the Search View.
I don’t understand why it would triger the JSP indexing, and restart MyEclipse with -clean doesn’t seem to help.
Maybe it’s a bug in 5.1.1GA, and I should try another version of the MyEclipse?
Looking forward to your advice,

NShwuMemberI am sorry for the bad image links, but I can’t seem to find a place to upload/attach the images.

Loyal WaterMemberCan you send Riyad a pm with the images.

NShwuMemberHi Riyad,
I hope you have recieved the images I’ve sent to you. Any idea?
I have created a brand new work space and import my projects. The Java Search now works every time, But there is always the “JSP Search” popup window showing up after every Java Search, and it takes a long time to finish.

Riyad KallaMemberHwu,
Thank you for the screenshots. I took a look and this is a side effect of the JSP Indexer contributing to the search process. I have filed a request to be able to turn this off in a future release.May 4, 2007 at 8:42 pm #269772
NShwuMemberMany thanks Riyad for looking into this.
If I have to live with it by using MyEclipse5.1.1GA, I’d like to switch to a previous version that is more stable and does not have this side effect. Which version do you recommend?

Riyad KallaMemberHwu,
I have a hard time suggesting older releases because we make so many advancements in each release… honestly I would wait for our 5.5 GA release late next week and try it and see if the situation is any better. If it’s not, then I believe we had a 5.0.1 release you could use. -
