emmanuelMemberI just tested ‘Rebuild Project’ with 020700RC1 on a smallish project consisting of only 68 JSPs with and without the ‘Compile JSPs’ option. Rebuild takes roughly 10 minutes ‘with’ and less than 1 minute ‘without Compile JSPsβ; Pentium IV 1.9Ghz, 512MB.
It seems there is no or little difference; I understood that 2.7 would address this, please see;
Features for 2.7/3.7 will include:
JSP Capabilities
– New parser for improved performance.Please advise whether MyEclipseIde is planning to provide ‘Compile JSPs’ option in a drastically reduced time (critical for large projects)? I cannot imagine waiting multiple minutes for large projects whilst JSPs are being compiled; and I donβt mean as part of the daily build.
Kind regards

support-michaelKeymasterThe most recent performance improvements were focused towards the JSP Editor. We will be adding more user controls to manage JSP validation. Presently JSP validation is either enabled/disabled for all projects. An upcoming release will enable you to validate individual JSPs. We are also looking into several JSP validation optimizations to hopefully speed things up. Finally, the Eclipse 3.0Mx will support building on background processes so your ui is not locked up, but that is still a ways off before it is GA.

Riyad KallaMemberI do have to make the comment that even on JBuilder X (newest release) compiling 68 JSPs will take just as long… the only application I’ve found that compiles JSPs faster than that is IntelliJ… and well frankly I think those guys actually EAT Java books.

Riyad KallaMemberHey you guys keep releasing these feature-full versions and become the premier Webdev plugin for Eclipse and we’ll start making up stories about “… the guys over at Genuitec”. We’ll even give you cool nicknames!

emmanuelMemberAfter I wrote above, that for 68 JSPs the ‘Rebuild Project’ is still slow, I tested this feature on my home project (currently 92 JSPs), and it absolutely flies. I have no idea as to why. Opening several JSPs which used to be slow, is much, much faster; ‘Rebuild Project’ is much, much faster.
At the office I run on WinXP P4 1.9 GHz. At home, Win2000-Pro P3 800 MHz, and the throughput on opening several JSPs and ‘Rebuild Project’ is roughly 10 time faster on both these features when using 020700RC1.
No idea why; but this is great.
But it’s at the office that an improvement is vital. I’m on leave until 15 Jan’2004; then I’d like to determine why office project is still slow regarding JSPs.
Kind regards
