After reading a number of other comments here, and now having the same problem with large jsp files causing the editor to crawl, I am ready to give up on myEclipse. Even setting the memory as suggested in previous posts, does not help anything.

Is there any way to turn off whatever validation,assist, or whatever is running in the background so I can at least get some work done here?

What is the JSP file you are trying to work with ? Can you switch to a brand new workspace and try working with the JSP files.
