We make use of the InstallAnywhere installer package and have learned that troubleshooting why it doesn’t work takes about 4x longer then just having people using the manual install. I’d also add that it does infact work fine on most installs.As a side note I’ve seen the InstallAnywhere package actually fail before because of certain video drivers… I have absolutely no clue why this was the case, but I’ve seen it.
Yes, manual way worked under Eclipse 3.1.0.
Do you know if I could install all those new Eclipse features like EMF SDK 2.1.0/UML2 SDK 1.1.0 and they will not conflict with MyEclipse v4.0 installation?
Why then those features are listed as not installed (EMF)? Do you use another packages for that or Eclipse IDE is not aware that MyEclipse is plugged inside it with those features?
I just checked my clean install of Eclipse/MyEclipse and confirmed that the EMF/GEF features are not shown as installed either, I will find out why (but your install should still be working fine).
The EMF/GEF capabilities are turned off by MyEclipse by default because most users don’t know what they are and don’t care to; they’re just required to get some of our core tooling to function. However, if you’d like to turn them on, you can do so at Window > Preferences > General > Capabilities. Click ‘Advanced…’ and enable Development > EMF/GEF/Draw2D/JEM.
That capability enablement didn’t change anything. After IDE restart and check for Updates – I still get the same list.
What are you looking for specifically? When I turn on those capabilities I now have EMF project creation options under File > New > Other… > Eclipse Modeling Framework with a few options under it, for example.
