My company operates a heavily firewalled/filtered network connection. I therefore have to install plugins like subclipse from a local archive. Unfortunately myeclipse 7.0 appears to expect a fully operational network connection.

Is there any way to stop myeclipse’s repeated attempts to access the network?

Would installing it via the archived update site help (as opposed to the all-in-one installer)?

MyEclipse will continue to fully operate while offline. You may see attempts to access the network for enhanced functionality like the MyEclipse Dashboard but if it is unavailable it will continue to operate.

You can install plugins from a local archive. Go to Help > Working with Update Sites to see a tutorial for how to add software from a local archive. Let us know if you run into issues.

I guess my main issue is that it continually tries to access the network. A side-effect of this is that I get repeated prompts for NTLM network authentication (tried numerous proxy settings, attempts to store password etc.). As a result, I gave up trying to install subclipse because the installation never really progressed despite me entering my network password multiple times over a period of several minutes. It may be the case that eventually the installation would have completed but it just takes far too long (my colleagues will be similarly confused/frustrated if they try the install).

If I install myeclipse as a plug-in, will I be able to avoid installing Pulse and other network dependent components? (they’re all pretty much useless due to the limited nature of my company’s network connection).

If you go to the downloads page, scroll down to the bottom and you can download the Archived Update Site. WIth this archive you can install it into an Eclipse 3.4.1 SDK installation. Hope this clears things up for you.
