I really wish to remove certain file associations in MyEclipse. Unfortunately all the ones I want to remove are locked. I do not understand why they should even be locked.

I know I can go hacking in xml files to get rid of these locks, but they shouldn’t even exist and I shouldn’t have to go hacking in xml files.

If there is an easy way to remove these associations please let me know. My choices currently are to go hacking in xml files or to install another IDE.

This also ties in to other areas which MyEclipse locks, like the servers tab. I am always forced to have MyEclipse Tomcat and Derby. I want neither, I want to see neither.

    jasper.floor,

You can remove file associations by going to Window > Preferences > General > Editors > File Associations.

No I can’t because the the content is locked. The option is greyed out. That is the problem. If it was as simple as you said I would’ve have done that. Thank you for assuming I am not capable of searching through menus.

    jasper.floor,

Can you copy and paste your installation details? This option is not greyed out for me. You have mentioned that you are trying to hack and change configurations, can you please rollback the same and check.
What are the file associations you are trying to remove?

Certain items will be marked as “locked”. An item is locked if it is one of the associations provided by the plug-in that declares the content type. In other words, you can remove only user-contributed associations.

I wish to remove the MyEclipse Visual JSF editor, for example. I do not want to have to click on every jsf file and tell it to use another editor. This editor is locked as I’ve explained. I wish to know how to unlock this.

I will remove the locks as it is possible. I just wish to be able to remove them in a normal way. I do not understand why this option even exists in eclipse as it only benefits plugin writers.

I’m afraid there is no way of unlocking these editors. What you can do is set another editor as the default editor. This way you wont have to click on every jsf file and tell it to use another editor. The default editor will be automatically picked up. You can go to Window > Preferences > General > Editors > File Associations and set a new default editor for the file types.
