    Hello,
I have an app that was developed to work very similar to Instagram with a desktop and mobile app, along with the same basic features of following someone, others following you, photo taking/upload, and comments.

This is my first time dealing with mobile apps like this, or mobi one or any other similar software, but each time a site user wants to log in on the mobile app, it takes at least 45 seconds to login, up to 1 minute, and sometimes the phone if not touched goes back to sleep before the spinning wheel stops and the user is redirected to the main page feed.

The database used and site is Joomla 3.0, and the social media software powering it is from a well-known Joomla component, JomSocial. I only add that since it is a reputable software powering the social functions. We are only using the app on iPhones currently, of the 3 being tested two are iPhone 5 and one is an iPhone 5s. The mobi one version I’m not sure of, but it’s been installed in the last 2.5 months but I do not have that exact information in front of me right now.

I’m wondering if it has to do with how the site is hosted, right now the site is on a regular consumer shared hosting server. Is there a server scenario that is recommended for a social setup like I’m running, or, for mobi one apps and sites in general?

    Thanks.

I would approach this by understanding where the bottleneck is. Start by analyzing network performance between all the connected parts: your device, carrier, data center, server, and finally the mobile service. There apps that will give you network performance details (netstat, ping,…) . Once you know where the bottleneck is then you can focus on optimization.

Thank you Wayne, I had no idea those tools existed. I will report back if I need any other assistance in this.

    Hello Wayne,
I looked at those apps, but it seems they’re designed to test the general connections of my phone and it’s network, not for testing specific apps connectivity (unless I’m not understanding it…).

Does MobiOne have any resources on this, on how to run these speed tests through the app in order to locate bottlenecks?

Are you logging in directly from the app or a mobile version of the site?
If its from the site it is through a iFrame, this can cause problems.
If its from the app are you using Ajax, PHP, etc? I have seen the code placed in the wrong place and even though it was not taking very long the code to close the activity was in the wrong place and took several minutes to go away.
