It would be more than useful to be able to use/install Safari as a browser into the MobiOne Test Center to TRULY test… instead of the unknown / noname built-in ‘browser”.

How can we install/use a REAL browser in MobiOne Test Center?

AND… will normal mobile video ever be played within the MobiOne Test Center’s unknown ‘browser’?
It will not even play Vimeo… nor any other video content.
Sure would be nice to have the Test Center work like a real browser.
Will this ever happen?

If you wish to use another WebKit-based browser such as safari or chrome (don’t waste your time dick’n with FF or IE) along side of mobione you can do so by copying the URL from the Test Center browser’s emulator addressbar or open a File Explorer to the generated code and launch the main HTML file in the browser of your choice. Before you go too far down this road you should be well versed on the features only supported in safari so you will not be confused when some safari feature does not work on mobile safari.

The TestCenter emulator browser is a branch of Chrome WebKit (same core as mobile safari) with enhancements to emulate iOS mobile safari features not available in desktop Safari. If your complaint is about audio and video we are expanding support for that with the constraint that the emulator will concentrate on the subset of media formats supported by iOS not your general run of the mill browser.

The main things to know are, how closely to mobile Safari does the Test Center browser truly emulate?
What EXACTLY does the Test Center browser NOT DO (other than audio and video) that a real mobile Safari browser would?

I have jQuery buttons that DO work in the Test Center browser, but a client says they do NOT in her iPad.

And yes, I use HTML5 delivered video and I KNOW which video types to use for mobile and fall back etc., it just sure would be useful if the Test Center would actually allow “testing” of real life mobile video/audio!!
People are using video and audio today…right?
Video is the main mobile content now, but the Test Center “browser” will not render/play any video….so….?

How far away is MobiOne from emulating anything other than iPad and iPhone?
It seems like it has been promised and “in the works” for a LONG LONG time.

– audio and video players
– natural flick/kinetic scrolling
– “viewport” meta tag – planning to provide experimental support
– JSON api

Android is next in line for emulation support. The roll out will be in multiple phases. We are current driving to generate code that will run as well on android as it does on iOS. Once we have this in place we will turn our attention to upgrading the Test Center for android emulation and the Design Center for android themed components.
