Ok, I’ve really had enough of pulse and its errors. I have spent the last 3 days trying to get this to work; so in a last effort before having to ditch MyEclipse I’m posting here.
A number of developers installed MyEclipse 7.0 and had problems installing the subeclipse plugin because of the proxy bug; the proxy settings were being lost and wouldn’t pass through the firewall. I managed to get through this by having IE and firefox set to a tunnelled proxy but this was very slow and not a scalable solution.
After some research I found many reports about the proxy/NTLM bug in 7.0. I thought great, I’ll just update to the new version.
How wrong was I. On installation I set the proxy and went to manage by plugins to be greeted with a “Problem fetching the Dashboard contents” message. I go back to the proxy settings and they have been reset.
Ok, I figure i can work around this by making sure that IE and Firefox are using the proxy tunnel as before. Well no luck there either. Every time I do that I now get a NullPointerException.
Also tried to run the update via pulse and now get a:
An internal error occurred during: “update”.
java.lang.NullPointerException
Maybe a reinstall is needed. I try that no luck.
I also try in a last gasp effort to do a complete clean, ie, uninstall pulse and myeclipse, delete all temp files and delete all pulse and genuitec files and folders from c:\documents and settings. Then I do a restart then a reinstall.
No difference.
This is happening on the two different PCs that I’ve tried it on (both have had 7.0 installed first).
It’s really sad to see MyEclipse in such a bad state as I’ve used it for well over 4 years now and have found it to be a useful tool. Unfortunately after recommending it to the new company i joined recently I now find myself rather embarrassed by it.
