If you were in a company that really hadn’t decided on WebSphere Applicaion Server, would you choose Blue or Professional?

Maybe a better question to as is can you deploy to other AS enviornments from MyEclipse Blue?

I’ve used Professional for years and I know it can deploy to a multitude of AS environments. My guess it that Blue deploys to WebSphere AS more easily than does Professional.

My company has several licenses availabe to it for Blue, but we’ve not made a decision on an AS yet and my fear is that we might choose something besides IBM’s WebSphere AS, and I don’t want to have to completely retool the IDE.

Blue is a strict super set of Pro.

Are you saying that with Blue (and I’ve not downloaded or used it), I would still see ALL the deployment capabilities that I see on Pro… meaning Geranimo, JBoss, JRun, Tomcat, Glassfish, Oracle, etc?

Pro currently includes WebSphere from 5 – 6 and Community Edition. Are these just done in a different way with Blue?

When I worked with WS developer 5.1.1, we created an .ear file that we then imported with WSAS 5.1.1. Is this the way it’s done with Blue or do you still PUSH the deployment out to the WSAS that’s been configured in Blue?

There are additional options. There are also WSAD/RAD compatibility features.

Sorry, I don’t have WAS 5 experience. We have 3.5 and 6.1ND. In the latter we export the EAR and import it with admin tools on the server.

Thank you so much. I certainly hope a MyEclipse support person will also weigh in.

We are in process of getting blue edition approved. We already have approval for pro edition.
If I buy a license for MyEclipse Blue, can I use this on MyEclipse Pro version? Can I roll the same license key to Blue after Blue edition gets approved?
