Hi,
I’m looking for a way to get rid of Pulse Explorer. Sorry, I know this has been discussed, but I still can’t pull my things together. We are going through proxy and organisational policy does not allow downloads for developers.
Hence I’m looking to use standard Eclipse update mechanism where things can be downloaded to and installed from local network.
The MyEclipse Update Site seems the way to go – is it something that is likely to be continued or will MyEclipse eventually force all users to use Pulse?

Though we recommend using Pulse, we will always maintain the update sites as well as provide an archived update site that can be downloaded. Pulse has been part of MyEclipse for around 3 years now, we aren’t going to force users if they prefer not using it.

I have installed Eclipse on Solaris 64 Bits Server. Later download MyEclipse Upgrade and apply them.
In About Eclipse I can see the MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench. But I can not see some features of Myeclipse. For example Servers connections , Myeclipse perspective.What can I do?
I am installed acording your intruction lahe this:

Thanks Brian, I could use Pulse, but it doesn’t seem to work unless one has pretty much unrestricted access to the Internet. And all organisations I ever worked for had some sort of restrictve policy around it, so this is a rather common issue for me.
If there were a finite list of URLs that Pulse requires, I’d be able to seek exemption for these URLs. But as far as I understand the download URLs cannot be narrowed downa to a list. Would that be correct?

If you enable access to the entire myeclipseide.com and poweredbypulse.com domains, it should work just fine for adding and removing MyEclipse components and receiving MyEclipse and Pulse updates.
Pulse does include a catalog of third party software though and none of those items will work unless you unblock their update sites too – but then you aren’t being forced to use the catalog. Yes, it would be difficult to get a list that ensures all these items can be installed.
Even if internet access is completely cut off (including our own domains), you can just as easily install using local sites, archived update sites or even the dropins folder.

When we say “all OSes” I’m afraid we mean Windows, Linux and OS X. Not “all” OSes. Sorry for the confusion.
While most of the features you mentioned could work on Solaris, we do not test with Solaris. The only question I have is whether you selected all the items from the first category (make sure “group by categories” is checked) of the archived update site. If you did not, please do, else I’m afraid I do not have any other ideas.
