I would like to create an aggregate component to be able to drop onto a new JSP/HTML page. This component would be a combination of multiple standard components, and potentially some javascript. I would like to expose a set of properties to the eclipse environment that encapsulated many of the details and inner workings of the aggregate. Therefore using a snippet will not work, as this simply places the code (with variables inserted into the page). Once inserted, snippets works with all of the components individually rather than as an aggregate.

I had read in the feature list for MyEclipse that there were “50+ design wizards for the creation of new web UI controls” and interpreted that as meaning I could do something similar to what I am requesting. If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be grateful.

I am using the latest version of MyEclipse (just downloaded today).
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Tim,
We don’t support the functionality you are asking for right at the moment, but an extensible palette is in the works (which I think would address the idea of adding components and using them).

Just for my own info, are you talking about a JSF component, or something home-grown?

This seems like a real shortcoming in the ability to really use the JSP editor capability. Too bad.

I am looking to be able to potentially put a few things: Applet, ActiveX control, JSF component, and DHTML Behavior. All of these have properties, methods, events, etc…

    Tim,
Please tell me what tool you are using now or have used (or are aware of) that supports what you are asking for. A completely language/platform agnostic palette and designer like you are asking for would be a true nightmare to write.
