robert j. makowskiMemberI am running on an uptodate ubuntu 6.06 dapper
I downloaded both eclipse 3.3.0 and MyEclipse 6.0 GA. I installed eclipse 3.3.0
in a totally new directory, started it using -clean, and had no problems. But the installation of MyEclipse 6.0 GA via an update archive failed without installing any MyEclipse jars. With 3.3.0 up, I went to Help -> Software Updates -> Find and Install -> Search for New Options to Install. I added a new archive site pointing to my .zip. As for the installation point, I again chose a brand new directory.
Once so configured, I selected the MyEclipse 6.0 GA update archive, and only that “site”, to grab new features. After about 3-4 minutes of grubbing thru the zip file, I get an exception notice via a popup complaining about:
“jar:file:/usr/local/genutec/myeclipse/iimage/MyEclipse_6.0GA_UpdateSite.zip!/features/com.genutec.myeclipse.jspdesign_6.0.0.zmyeclipse60020070820.jar”
I am offered a retry repeatedly, but same problem. When I quit, I find no jar files have been installed in the MyEclipse installation directory. Interestingly, the eclipse configuration report *does* show the myeclipse jars that were processed prior to the exception. Also I checked, and all the jar files are valid zip files.
i have attached a partial configuration report, redacting my proxy information, etc.
please advise – mak

Riyad KallaMemberMak,
Let’s try this… download the Manual Install please (just a ZIP file). Unzip it somewhere,
as the same user you will run MyEclipse as, then fire up Eclipse 3.3.0 and go to
Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration… make sure there aren’t any
lingering MyEclipse plugins… if so please clean them out. Then right-click and
Add an extension point. Then point to the dir you extracted MyEclipse into. Then restart
after the install is done… did that do the trick?August 22, 2007 at 2:06 pm #274288
robert j. makowskiMemberafter disabling MyEclipse, and exiting eclipse, I had to [rename] the installation point, before eclipse let go of the update archive relationship.
as per your suggestion, i used yet another installation point for the manual install image.… and then all was goodness and light…. or at least MyEclipse 6.0 came up…
I have yet to try out any features, but at least the manual install did complete…thanks ever so muchly 🙂

Riyad KallaMemberMak,
I’m glad to hear that we headed in the right direction and things are working now (or atleast installed 😉 -
