    Hello,

I just started using MyEclipse to debug an existing JSP project. I don’t know much about it, nor about Java. They brought me in to be an independent auditor with a fresh perspective. Well, I’m so fresh I’m clueless.

My dilemma: I can’t step through the JSP project using MyEclipse. I open index.jsp, then I choose Run, Debug As. My only choice at this point is JavaScript Application, which doesn’t seem right. If I choose that, it says “You have chosen to debug a JavaScript Application using a non-HTML file. For this file to work correctly you most likely need to modify the URL field…” I say OK, on next screen I take the defaults and click “Debug”. It puts me in Web 2.0 perspective, but the Browser tab just shows the code, doesn’t interpret it. And nothing seems to be happening, i.e., the program isn’t running.

Question: If Tomcat runs on a Linux server and I have MyEclipse running on a Windows machine on the same network, should I be able to step through / debug? Or do I need a stand-alone project?

Another question: Do I need the JSP plug-in for MyEclipse to step through a JSP? How can I tell if this plug-in is installed?

    Thanks very much.

Remote debugging is possible using MyEclipse:-

You dont need any additional plugin. Did you take a look at the JSP debugging section in the following tutorial ?

Awesome! Thank you so very much for your quick response. I now have some good news to tell my customer.

I will take a look at both of those documents – I really appreciate the direction and help.
