jspersonMemberI have a clean install of Eclipse version 3.0.0 running on OS X with the 1.4.2 JDK. myeclipse seems to run fine, exccept that I don’t get a preview pane on JSP’s nor does tag completion work. I gather they should because they show up in the demo. I searched all docs, the web, and google groups…no success.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Riyad KallaMemberScott,
You will want to double check that you are opening your JSP pages with our editor. Right click on your JSP page, and go to “Open With…” then select “MyEclipse JSP Editor”.Also it is handy if you tell us what version of Eclipse (including M-build) and what version of MyEclipse you are running.

jspersonMemberI have verified that I’m using the MyEclipse editor. I’m using Eclipse 3.0.0M8 and MyEclipse 3.7.2.
Sorry for not including that information earlier. Also, thanks for the support. I’ll be registering if I can get it working…
Thanks again,

Riyad KallaMemberScott,
The preview is not available on Linux or Mac because the SWT Browser widget (mozilla wrapper) wasn’t stable enough. But aparently its stabalize in M9, so in our 3.8beta1 release we will have a browser widget available on all platforms. As far as autocomplete is concerned, can you provide a use case of what you are trying to complete? Is your project a Web Module Project? Do you have any errors in your task list? Are all necessary JARs part of your build path? Do you have any required TLD taglib entries in your web.xml file? Have you spun in a circle 3 times and said “Ham” before posting to these forums?
Hopefully these answers will help us get to the bottom of the problem.

jspersonMemberYou ask some great questions. I can sum them up by saying “I have no idea. 😳 ” I have no apparent errors. I literally just installed Eclipse and MyEclipse then tried to follow the HelloWorld flash tutorial on your web site. The code completion shows up great on the tutorial, but not on my side.
Once again, thanks for the help.

Well atleast we are on the same page 😀
Ok to start fresh, lets check a few things. Do you see a MyEclipse button when you look at the Help > About dialog? When you click it do you see plugin information and versions?
If you go to Windows > Preferences, do you have a preference node called “MyEclipse”?
If so, then ME seems to be installed fine. Ok now lets create a new Web Module Project. Click File > New > Project > J2EE > Web Module Project, give it a name of “TestWeb” and hit Finish.
Now expand your “WebRoot” node, you probably have a “META-INF” and “WEB-INF” dir under it. Right click on your WebRoot folder and add a new JSP page: New > File > JSP. Leave all the defaults, hit Finish. You should now have a “MyJsp.jsp” file in your WebRoot.
Double check your tasks view to see if you have any warnings or errors (make sure you have all other proejcts closed so they don’t interfere with our work).
Now double click your MyJsp.jsp file. Go down into the body tag some where and paste the following code:
<% String testString = "bananas"; %>Now save the file and make sure no errors are present. Ok now go below what you just pasted in a few lines and add this code:
Monkies love <%= %>!and put your cursor (after pasting) after the = sign, now press CTRL-SPACE, you should be able to start typing “testString” and see your completion list narrow down pretty much like the Java editor in Eclipse. Did this work? If not, can you check your log file and see if you got any exception?

jspersonMemberThe good news: I am now a registered user.
The bad news: I’m a stupid one.
Why this matters: I’ve used JBuilder and VB a lot. In those tools code completion pops up automatically. I just didn’t realize I needed to hit <ctl>space. I figured it out and was going to call off the dogs, but you guys are too fast.
Anyway, your web support is the best I’ve ever seen. This includes the Oracle support that we spend tens of thousands on every year. They’re very good, you guys are better. Keep it up!

Hey, we appreciate the support!

Its no problem at all. The reason you got caught up is a valid one, and probably means its a great place for us to file an enhancement request. I actually like these support issues the best, its the ones where no one can figure anything out that makes me feel bad we can’t get the people up and running.

Thanks for the compliment! We will keep at it for sure.
