After installing MyEclipse on a new workstation, (Dell P2.4, 1.5GB RAM, Windows XP Pro), it takes forever for me to synchronize with CVS. The timeout occurs at the very beginning where the details pane reads “Authenticating using pserver”. After several seconds it authenticates and the sychronization happens as fast as normal.

I have been using the same repository with MyEclipse on my old machine for months. If one of my teammates uses my user name and password he synchs-up in a second. We have no network issues or problems and nobody else is having the problem -any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Henry

This isn’t an issue with MyEclipse (Eclipse provides the base CVS integration and we have no code that modifies the SC modules in any way). BUT, what I would suggest trying is the following:

File > Switch Workspace > C:\tempworkspace, hit OK to restart. Now setup a new CVS repository to match the one that was giving you trouble, try and checkout and sync with it… is it still slow? If so, thereis osmething wrong with your computer’s setup. Double check your Windows firewall settings (you said it was new, this could be an issue) also check Virus scanners and see how aggressively they are set.

Also do you notice this problem with other CVS repositories as well? Try and hookup to the eclipse.org CVS repo and checkout the source code for GEF or something, did it take a long time as well?

    Riyad:

I am embarrassed to report that it was Windows Firewall that was causing the problem – with it off, no problem. Should have tried that myself, but I appreciate your prompt response.

    No worries, glad it works.
